I am a professional swing set installer. I have been in this business since 2001. I've installed well over 6000 swing sets from numerous manufacturers. Services: Swing Set Installations Swing Set Repair work *I do not offer stain/seal or pressure washing services* I cover close to a 150 mile radius from zip 19014.

"A pleasant experience from beginning to end. Russel - aka Swing Set Man - was highly responsive, professional. and accommodating, and you can tell he's a master of this art form of swing set installation. I ordered the Gorilla Navigator swing set, which I was going to buy off the Gorilla website. I'm glad I reached out to Russel first, as he found the exact one I wanted on Bed, Bath, and Beyond's website (who knew they were still in business) for $500 less. Tragically, Gorilla forgot a key accessory box when they shipped, but Russel has connections and, if not for the fact I already reached out, he would've been able to procure that box for me. As a result of the delay, I missed the installation date, but again Russel accommodated, coming out on a Sunday morning in the high 20s in March to put the play set together. He knocked the whole thing out in less than five hours. He told me that Gorilla forgot the hardware for the monkey bars (sigh), but not to worry he brings his own and had no trouble getting it installed. He even ensures the swing set is level with his own wooden blocks and secures the swing set properly from tipping. Not a board or screw out of place (and I looked). I almost wish I had another swing set for him to install because the experience was so awesome. He's highly responsive and knows what he's doing (check out his Instagram), and his rates are nearly identical to what you'd pay Gorilla if you had them install. Highest recommendation, do not hesitate to have him build your child's swing set the right way."

the Village Carpenter is Family owned and operated business started by my Grandfather when he retired from the steel mill in 1961. I started "in tow" with my Grandfather and Great Grandfather instilling old school craftsmanship and hard core work ethic into a profession they noted, "will always be good for the Family." When Clients call the Village Carpenter, they get me, Mark Letersky from start to finish on every project, as well as an immediate history of a way of doing business on a level where everyone is your Neighbor and they appreciate quality work at a fair price. We like and appreciate our Clients, so if you are just looking for cheap, inexperienced and unskilled labor, we ARE NOT who you are looking for your projects. We do honest work for reasonable compensation. Whether you need all of those little tasks on the "Honey Do" list done and over with, or an extension built on your home, the Village Carpenter offers a reasonably priced solution, great communication (cell, text, email) and all within a reasonable time frame. As always, Have a great day! Mark

"Ghosted me and my client. Mark was hired by the sellers of the home my client was purchasing. He apparently had been the sellers trusted contractor for their time owning the home. The sellers hired him to complete a punch list of repair items. When we got to my clients final walk through, there were a handful of items that were not complete. We were assured that Mark was a reliable contact and for my client to reach out to him to make sure everything was taken care of post settlement. What a mistake. For months, my client and I tried to reach him. We did hear back once to coordinate a time, but once responded, nothing again. These were not groundbreaking repairs, so perhaps they weren’t worth his time, but the lack of communication has been very frustrating. I deal with contractors all the time and understand how some you need to chase down more than others, but definitely would not recommend Mark to clients of mine in fear of a similar experience."

Welcome to Play N’ Learn, your store for family fun and recreation. Here you’ll find a wide selection of popular products for outdoor play, including swing sets and playsets for home and commercial playgrounds, basketball hoops, and trampolines. You’ll also find name brand choices for indoor recreation, including pool tables, air hockey, foosball and table tennis. For a hands-on demonstration of merchandise, please visit one of our Play N’ Learn Playground Superstores.

"We purchased a play set from Play N’ Learn Columbia in May 2020. During the purchasing process, the sale representative (George Humphreys) was readily available via chat, email and phone to answer my questions and provide me with information regarding the purchase (as we were not able to see the sets in the store due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Our set was installed in June 2020 and upon inspecting the installed play set, I noticed that many of the beams were split, damaged, and splintered. This was extreme concerning to us, given that it is an expensive purchase and we worried about the safety and quality of the product (Note: the split wood got worse with use in just the past month). I contacted George to make him aware of the damage and, over the course of a few days, continued to contact George regarding additional beams that I realized had damage. I requested over and over via email and multiple calls that George call me to discuss the problems and a resolution and not once did he call me to discuss. He offered, via email, to have some of the beams replaced but had to seek approval from his manager (Frank Goldstein). Due to the lack of responsiveness from George and the lack of any indication that he cared one bit about the damage to our brand new play set, I began contacting Frank directly. Frank offered to come to my house to look at the damage that I was complaining about and to decide what can be done to fix it. I appreciated his willingness to come to look at the product himself; however, he showed up at my house with an attitude and was very impolite and unprofessional in his demeanor. Frank insisted that the “damage” I identified was normal and, over and over again, he told me “if you are expecting perfection, maybe a wooden play set isn’t for you.” It was not until I pointed out how unprofessional and rude he was being to me, that Frank change his tone. Eventually, he agreed to replace some, not all, of the damaged beams. I was, and still to this day am, taken aback at the way that I was treated by both George and Frank, but I wanted to wait until the damage beams were replaced before I posted my experience. This is a word of mouth business and I want everyone to be aware of my experience and this company’s complete disregard for its customers. Most customer service oriented companies would have apologized that the product and/or installation was not up to par and would have immediately offered to make it right. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive one apology, they charged me $399 for installation and Frank informed me that I was lucky to even get a play set in the first place because of the high demand. This is not a cheap product and I suggest taking your money elsewhere to avoid all of the stress, regret and disappointment that this experience has caused."

Hidey's Landscape Supply Yard is a local family owned business since 1988. From landscape supplies (mulch, soils, stones, play chips, wood chips, compost, sand, gravel, firewood, wood pellets, sawdust and wood shavings), we have grown to include the sales, service and rentals of Hidey's Custom Golf Carts, specializing in Star, E-Z-GO, Club Car, and Yamaha. As well as providing Hidey's Roll Off Rentals. All of our mulches are heat treated to be weed, seed, and insect free. They are manufactured on site without any pallet or scrap wood with owner oversight ensuring a high quality product. The mulch is available in bulk or bags. Our screened topsoil is 50% enriched with compost and stored undercover so you can have a dark rich product that is easily rakeable on even wet days. It also is available in bulk or bags. All of our bulk products are sold by cubic yard for a consistent volume wet or dry. We are always available during regular business hours to help you calculate the correct volume of product for your job. We also split hardwood with a state of the art wood processor and deliver it to your home ready to burn. The wood averages 18" in length and is available by the cord, the 1/2 cord, the scoop, and the 6 piece bundle. If you have a wood pellet stove, our premium hardwood pellets by O'Malley burn between 8200-8300 BTU's and generate less than 1% ash content. They are available for pick up or delivery as are all of our products. Hidey's Roll Off Service is available to rent cans for construction debris, yard debris, or home cleaning. We also can deliver sawdust/wood shavings in a can and haul back manure. Our rental includes the drop off and pick up of the can in a timely manner. If you desire, we can deliver firewood or landscape supplies in the can and waive the delivery cost with the can rental. Hidey's is looking out for your needs and is available to recommend products to enhance the exterior appearance of your property. Hidey's professional and friendly staff will try to accommodate your requests to the best of their ability.

"After a dump truck drops a bad load firewood, wood scraps, dirt and stone in the middle of a driveway, there is no good fix. Last fall we placed an internet order and paid for 2 cords of firewood for $450 plus delivery from what we thought was a reputable vendor. We couldn’t see the wood in the delivery truck. After dumping the driver commented on the poor quality and said we could exchange the very large pieces and small scraps. After doing some sorting we called Hideys to figure out how such a misconception occurred, what we could do this year and future years. We received a very mixed attitude. They couldn’t come look at our problem. Two of us went to Hideys to meet with their office manager. We were looking for how this went bad, whether Hidey’s could be our long term supplier, or, how to select another vendor. She acknowledged the bad shipment but continued with attitude and excuses ... we didn’t understand what bulk firewood is, we should have ordered premium, we could put the big wood in fireplace diagonally… and on and on. She showed us wood cleaning equipment I understood was new. I later read a review that stated this equipment was new the previous year. Hidey’s measures cords by a number of scoops from a loose thrown firewood dump. ------ [*** Link removed ***] ---- A loose thrown cord should take up about 180 cubic feet (6.66 cubic yards or 5.1 cubic meters) of space as is. The idea is that, when stacked, the total volume would equal roughly 128 cubic feet (3.5 cubic meters), or the volume of a full cord. A "thrown" cord takes approximately 30%+- more space than a stacked cord. A typical pickup truck w/ 6ft. bed is 54 cubic feet (2 cubic yards - level load-Stacked); an 8ft. bed is 81 cubic feet (3 cubic yards - heaped load- Stacked). Remembering now! that "thrown" takes 30%+- more (space) than stacked. Therefore a 6ft. truckload has 30%+- of a "thrown" cord; an 8ft. truckload has 45%+- of a "thrown" cord. -------- Hidey’s gave us an adjustment of a pickup full of loose thrown wood and we left. Neither of us was impressed or interested in future business. After sorting and stacking all the wood, at that time, we figured it was about a full cord. A little hard to know because the log size varied so much. We shoveled the dirt, rock and wood scraps into carts and dumped it in a low spot. Yesterday we received 4 cords of mixed hardwood from a new supplier. We could see the wood on the trailer. Good clean mostly even cut wood. Three pieces started and burned well. These cords must be metric because they are bigger than Hidey’s. The crew helped me stack much and showed me the best way. If Hidey’s simply supplied this quality wood I’d be using them annually. This vendor supplied better wood at a lower price with better service. I gave a bonus and now consider them my wood supplier. I now feel comfortable reviewing bulk firewood! Any company can have a bad day or delivery. How that company then handles things makes all the difference."

Playground Equipment questions, answered by experts

Material markup costs and labor expenses are the additional primary costs of hiring a playground installer over building your own set. Labor costs are typically less costly than some more specialized home improvement projects. DIY swing set construction is less expensive than professional installation but will take considerably more time and effort to perform.

Yes! It’s always a good idea to anchor your playset. Even though they’re heavy, it doesn’t take much wind to blow one over. Anchoring everything to the ground makes it a lot safer for your kiddos.

Generally speaking, building a swing set is cheaper than buying a prefabricated one, but this assumes you have all the tools and knowledge to complete the project. The average cost to build a swing set is $514, but you should also factor in the time and effort it will require—if you don’t want to give up your weekend, it’s worth considering buying instead of building.

It’s usually possible to install a playground yourself, but we don’t recommend it. Playground construction can be complicated and involves moving large, heavy, and bulky components into place while you affix them to other pieces. Not only is the work physically demanding, but any mistakes could reduce the lifespan of your playground and potentially put any children who use the equipment at risk of injury. It’s relatively inexpensive to hire a professional playground installer, and it’s usually worth the investment, if only for the peace of mind it provides.

The cost of the materials to build a DIY playground will run you about $700 to $1,000, which could vary based on the type of lumber you choose to use. On the other hand, buying a pre-made playset costs $1,000 to $6,500 or more, and if you choose to have it professionally installed, you’ll pay an additional $330 to $700.
