"First Class Chimney workers were on time, polite, and very neat. Everything was covered by cloths so as not to allow any dirt in the living room. After the cleaning, they used a camera to show us the inside of the chimney, where the lining had broken and many pieces had fallen off altogether, allowing smoke to go through into the basement. The relining was done and we still had a problem, so the company immediately returned to do more sealing. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem, and it became clear that moving the damper from the bottom of the chimney to the top--usually not a problem, but in our house it was--was the cause. A new damper was ordered and installed, but did not fit quite correctly with our very old fireplace, so a second was ordered, installed, and works perfectly.
