He ordered a wood storage shed from Home Depot and it was delivered to our front yard without telling anyone. The DMV men unpacked the box and discovered some necessary parts were missing so returned to Home Depot to buy them. They leveled the slope in our backyard and set the foundation for the shed. Then they added shingles, windows, doors, and a ramp. They painted the outside of the shed and added a ramp, selecting a sturdier paint for the latter. They installed a screen all around the bottom edge of the shed to provide ventilation and keep the animals out. Finally they moved the items to be stored from our garage to the new shed, opening up more space in the garage for the remodeling of the 1st and 2nd floors of our house. The workmen skillfully disassembled and/or moved furniture, file cabinets, supplies, and 100s of books and other items to different locations in the house and garage. Then they installed new lighting: 53 recessed lights, 9 dimmers, and a new electrical outlet near the vanity. When a bookcase was added on the right side of my new digital organ they moved the organ to the left along with 2 recessed lights shining above the organ to more effectively illuminate the music rack. And finally they installed a special circuit breaker for the organ. They installed cabling for 3 internet connections to the computer network giving access to the basement, living room, and 2nd floor. They installed the wiring for electrical power to 3 printers, one on each floor. Next they replaced our carpet with beautiful hardwood floors in 7 rooms, a small hallway, and a stairway. They removed 5 single doors on the 2nd floor and replaced them with solid core doors. They installed and painted 2 bi-folding doors for our utility closets. They painted the walls in 7 rooms, a small hallway, and a stairway first removing wallpaper in one room and 2 wall borders. They took special care in the den, repairing one wall and a big hole in the ceiling before painting. They did a great job of painting the ceilings, touching up 4 textured ceilings and smoothing out 3 others in a more elaborate process that included repairing drywall and removing texture, preparing the ceiling for painting, and then actually painting it. They installed and painted shoe molding in 7 rooms. And last but not least they repaired bathroom door frame and painted the nearby wall and a baseboard that had some paint splotches from a previous job. The DMV workmen did some additional jobs not related to repairing and painting walls and ceilings, or installing hardwood floors. The installed 5 smoke detectors, 7 curtain rods, a new Bosch dishwasher, and new blinds to replace blinds accidently damaged. They caulked a bathtub, cleaned grout in a shower and caulked the area near its door. In order to prevent heavy bookcases from toppling over they secured 10 bookcases to the wall. And in a final visit they even tightened screws in the kitchen cabinets installed by the previous DMV contractor. They always took care in sealing off work areas, covering floors, and cleaning up at the end of the day. The price seems reasonable because sometimes they did extra work not previously budgeted like extra painting or changes when were not satisfied or had new ideas. Javier is great at planning, communicating and executing the work, but could certainly benefit from having a right-hand man to assist him when he is not immediately available. "Painted entire bathroom, put up linen closet wood shelves, put up 2 mirrors, 2 light fixtures, toilet paper holder, hand towel holder, regular size towel holder, 2 robe hooks, had to make a hole for jacuzzi tub to get to motor if we ever have a problem, put in a glass shelf above the tile around the tub, put handicap rail up, put in shower seat, put fixture in shower handle and shower head, tiled entire shower, above the tub, had to move the light switch like half an inch up, put on light switch covers, put up new blinds I had, painted door and put on new door knob.. I think I got it all lol.. It had a lot of little things that needed done, then the tiling, the floor tile was already done except the step to the tub which was a small step. All my sink & tub fixtures were already done. Everything that was put in I already had that we picked out years ago. I wish I could attach photos it's amazing!

"Walter was great. He and his helper arrived on-time and spent the whole first day busy. The second day he brought a different helper. They were very neat and cleaned up and covered the floor areas and our bed. They put in a barn door and had to install a header with drywall. They moved one light and put in 5 new lights.They also fixed one bathroom faucet that the cold and hot water lines had been switched. I would definitely recommend him to friends"

"Steven was incredibly courteous and showed tremendous integrity throughout the project. He literally was correcting another man's mistakes, and did so without complaint. Because our first contractor left us in a lurch, we had to renew our permits with the county multiple times, and as a result, our inspectors were (understandably!) tough at each inspection. Several items had to be corrected that weren't originally accounted for, and Steven never once came back and tried to make those repairs our responsibility.

It has been about 14 months since the addition was completed, and when we had a problem with the newly-installed HVAC this week, we called Chevy Chase Remodeling. After only a few quick phone calls, we were set up with someone to come out and fix the problem this evening, after hours. After all the bad experiences with contractors we have had, we were almost surprised to find someone who stands by his word, but we truly have.

"LFC completed several construction project for our basement remodel. LFC Services helped procure the building permit, installed the rock wool insulation, fire blocking the doors (exterior and interior), sheet rock work, sump pump and back up battery, the basement tile floor (including marble bathroom tile) and all the trim work. LFC removed existing tile floor and sanded the concrete floor. LFC also built a platform for my shed. My contact person with LFC was Mr Tony Heard. Mr. Heard and one of his associates Mr. Murty both provided excellent service. We found him to be professional, honest, and reliable. When we had a question, Mr Heard always returned our calls and explain any issue in detail that met with our satisfaction. If there was something that I he did not know, Mr. Heard did research and came back and discuss his findings. I could go on about how he helped us when our basement flooded or how he found the cut off valve and light fixture the sheet rock crew enclosed. To sum everything up, IF YOU WANT A JOB WELL DONE CALL LFC AND ASK FOR MR. HEARD."

"Our sump pump failed during the hurricane in August 2011, so we had drywall damage (2 feet up from the floor), ruined floorboards, ruined tile and carpet, and damaged closet and bathroom doors. In addition, because it had taken so long for the insurance company to send someone out to our house, we had significant mold behind the damaged drywall. We called several companies, including those recommended by our insurance company, and nobody would work with us because a) we had mold behind our drywall and b) we were dealing with an insurance claim. Because our estimate was in the $15,000 range, we not only had to wait on the insurance company to issue our check, but we also had to go through an arduous process with our bank to release the funds. We were starting to get desperate, as we have an infant and didn't want her in a house with mold.

We decided to call Devin after reading his ratings on Angie's List. From the word go, Devin was 100 percent on board. He wasn't afraid to deal with mold, and when I told him about the insurance/bank obstacles, he was totally willing to be patient and work with us. He's had prior experience working with insurance companies, and he told us he was more than willing to wait. He then showed up the next day to check the damage. Devin first insisted on removing the damaged drywall immediately, even though we had no money to give him and no sign that we'd be getting it any time soon. He told us that he was most concerned about having the mold in the house with our daughter, and he told us he'd remove the damaged drywall prior to even developing his quote. Three days later, his crew arrived and removed all of the damaged drywall and tile. It was such a relief to have the mold out of our house!

Devin then quickly brought in contractors to provide us with his estimate. He knew that our insurance company had initially quoted a $10,000 job, but he noted that they didn't quote the cost of several other tasks that needed to be done in order to restore our basement, such as the seams along the corners of the walls. Thus, when he presented us with his $15,000 estimate, I was pretty nervous. I didn't know whether the insurance company would approve it. However, Devin was confident that they'd accept it, because he had documented every cost in the quote, explained his rationale, and taken pictures to support his claims. Happily, the insurance company readily accepted his quote, explaining to us that they agreed with his estimates. Finally, we could proceed with the work and also submit the required paperwork so that we could pay Devin. Keep in mind this entire time, he had yet to receive a dime!

Another thing that the insurance company had failed to do in its report is account for the "sweat equity" that my husband had put into the basement. He removed and disposed of all of the damaged carpet, and he also moved all of our items out of the basement. Devin was eager and willing to build those costs into his contract so that once the insurance company accepted the quote, he could then subtract those costs from our final bill. Since we had a $1000 deductible, that allowed us to cut our out-of-pocket cost in half!

Devin and his crew started their work in December, with a delay only due to the fact that we were waiting on paperwork from the bank. They finished the job in one quick week- replaced the drywall, tile, carpet, closet and bathroom doors, and painted the entire basement. For an 860-square-foot basement, that's a lot of work, and they made it look easy! Devin was on site at least every other day, if not daily, to check the work of his contractors and ensure that the work was progressing. His crew was polite and friendly, and if it weren't for the noise, we wouldn't have known they were there. They completed their work, with Devin only receiving our deductible and the first installment from the insurance company. And the basement looks even better than it did prior to the flood! The quality of the work is evident, and we are thrilled with the results. As of my posting date, Devin has yet to receive the bulk of his funds due to the incredibly slow process, and yet he has been totally flexible and willing to wait. I don't know of many other contractors who would be so willing to wait on $10,000 worth of funds after the project has been completed!

I can't speak highly enough of Devin and his crew. From start to finish, he took the stress out of this process. As a young family starting out, we just didn't have the personal funds to advance a contractor the money. Devin took that stress away and agreed to work with us, no questions asked. He even helped us caulk some leaky windows and give us a sense of how to mitigate our water drainage situation, at no additional cost. You can tell that he cares about his clients and helping them solve their problems. I can guarantee that when we are in a position to remodel our sunroom and do other household repairs, I will be calling Devin at Marvel Homes to do the work for us!"
