"We contacted Calvert Tree Experts about having 9 trees taken down on our property. Crystal contacted us and came out for our estimate the same day. She gave us a price which we felt was fair and she was able to schedule us quickly as well. She promptly answered any questions we had and kept in close contact with us throughout the process. We ended up getting more trees taken down than we originally planned and they were incredibly flexible and accommodating to our changing requests. When the crew arrived they worked quickly and efficiently while also taking great care. They were extremely professional and the precision with which they took down the trees was impressive. It was obvious they had a lot of experience. They left our yard looking better than we expected and we appreciated the time they took to do so. We highly recommend Calvert Tree Experts, Crystal and her team were a pleasure to work with!"

Small jobs welcome

"I used Chesapeake Stump Grinding for several tree stumps that were bothering me for years. I called the number advertised and was pleasantly surprised that the stumps could be removed the same day. A few hours later the stumps were removed. The contractor even filled the holes that the stumps left. Which I thought was going to take me awhile to do after he left. Prices were very reasonable and I will use the company again in the future."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Not all leaning trees are dangerous, but they can be a hazard as gravity may eventually cause them to fall. A key factor is whether the lean is new or has been present for a long time. Trees that have grown with a lean for years are not typically an immediate danger, but a sudden lean is a cause for concern as it often indicates weakening roots. If a tree is leaning more than 15% from vertical, you should consider having it straightened or transplanted. To be safe, it's always best to hire a professional arborist to inspect any leaning tree to assess the risk and avoid potential accidents.

You can use a chainsaw, but it won’t remove the entire stump or root ball and is not a recommended method. It takes quite a bit of physical work to achieve and will likely dull or ruin your chainsaw. Instead, consider using salt, herbicide, light deprivation, boiling water, stump grinding, or burning to kill a tree stump. These methods allow you to kill a stump using minimal machinery and physical exertion.

A pro can guide you on the alternatives to tree topping depending on the specific issues within your trees. For example, if you’re dealing with breakage and cracks in your tree, they may suggest canopy reduction, which removes less than 25% of the tree’s limbs. If you’re dealing with lesser damage, some intentional pruning may be all you need. If you’re looking to get a clearer view through your tree, the pro may also try windowing or skirting your tree.

There are a few differences between tree guying and tree staking. Tree guying requires anchor stakes that are shorter and stronger than regular stakes and are driven deeper into the ground at an angle away from the tree. Tree staking uses longer stakes that are set parallel to the tree and are used for smaller trees. Consult a local tree professional to determine which method is best for your tree.

The typical lifespan of a Bradford pear is relatively short, only 15 to 25 years. However, these trees have issues long before their life is over. Due to their soft wood and fast-growing branches, Bradford pear trees often split around 15 years, making them a risk for falling branches and more prone to disease.
