"Cornerstone did an excellent job with our deck which required a pressure wash and stain. At the start we requested a written quote and that was received within a day. Once the order was placed the administrative staff contacted me to coordinate the work which commenced within a very reasonable amount of time. This company is first rate, professional, prompt and courteous. The final project exceeded my expectation. I highly recommend Cornerstone Hydrowash and I most definitely will hire them again"

"Spiro and Dionysius had previously power washed the exterior of my home prior to painting. Because they did an excellent job I asked them to also wash the bluestone. I had been reluctant to wash this area because bluestone is soft and can be easily damaged. I was delighted at the care they took. The area looks great.

Small jobs welcome

"This was an exterior painting project that needed to be completed before the Homeowner Association Nazis did their regular spring tour of homes. Dave & Rumel were super easy to work with. The job was scheduled painlessly and promptly. The work was done beyond my expectations. Rumel cleaned up after the work, not a speck of debris was to be found. I would HIGHLY recommend this business for all of your painting needs."

"Awesome! The recognized that the deck is mahagoney and wouldn’t hold a solid stain. They worked w sherwin Williams to determine the best solution, and knocked it out."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The number of coats you need to apply when whitewashing a surface depends on how opaque you want the final product to be. If you're going for a transparent, barely there look, a single coat or two may suffice. For fuller coverage, you'll want to use multiple coats. Another option is to use a less diluted paint to get a thicker coverage.

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.

By applying protective finishes and using durable materials that withstand weather and time.
