"We have used Olde England to paint both the interior and exterior of our old Victorian house. They do a terrific job and we would highly recommend them. They are professional, hard working, and keep a clean workspace. They’ve also done several carpentry repairs that were well done."

"I highly recommend Kennedy Painting! Brain (the owner) was very personable and provided excellent customer service. When we walked around my house to going over what work needed to be done, he asked a lot questions and gave me some advice about different projects around the house. He also provided more than one estimate, so that we have different options to which we could choose from. Brian’s crew worked efficiently and did an excellent job with our exterior trim and deck. They scraped, sanded, primed and painted the trim of our house and sanded and painted our deck, not only to make it look better, but to preserve it for years to come. Thank you Kennedy Painting!"

"Foxrock was great to work with throughout our exterior painting project. Gordon the project manager was communicative and responsive throughout. We have an older house with a lot of lead paint. The Foxrock crew carefully prepped, scraped, and cleaned up before starting the painting process. When we encountered a need for additional carpentry work on wood shingles and sanding of the back deck Gordon was up front and transparent about the additional cost. The carpentry work was of high quality and the attention to detail of the painting was top notch. We are very happy with the finished product and even had a neighbor ask about hiring Foxrock to paint the exterior of their house. I would definitely recommend Foxrock for any future painting project."

"We were very happy with the whole experience. Ronaldo came highly recommended by my cousin, who'd had both interior and exterior painting done on her house. Ronaldo is professional and very conscientious, responsive, accommodationg, and hard-working. He is willing to adjust his schedule to yours, and to work with you to solve any painting questions or issues that come up. Also, his prices are very competitive, and the quality of his work is consistent and good.

We were very happy with the project, and will use RS Paining again whenever we need to."

Customers say: True professional

"Very well. At first I thought all I needed was to have the individual peeling shingles re-painted but Sean showed me that the previous painters hadn't primed or used the proper paint. So we came to an agreement on a very fair price, and he totally stripped, primed and stained the side of my house, the trim, plus the side deck and deck steps. He even filled a hole a woodpecker made in the trim and replaced a rotted section of trim before painting it. He was prompt, thorough and EXTREMELY neat with his work. He and his helper cleaned up their area so thoroughly you'd never know they had been there. Sean was very reliable and I would highly recommend him. I will absolutely call him the next time I need painting done."

"Marco is an amazing pro with a team to match who knows every part of a complex paint job such as our exterior units. He helped us decide between oil stains and solid paints and gave us plenty of help by application of samples to our wood siding. His carpentars made all necessary repairs and replacement to the siding and the trim. When it rained they held off any work and he put extra workers on it so we finished it in a timely manner. I will definitely hire Marco for future work both exterior and interior. He wasn’t the cheapest bid, but when additional changes were needed he worked with us to stay within a reasonable budget. Bravo Marco!!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is generally a very good idea to seal your deck after pressure washing. Power washing removes not only dirt and debris but also a thin layer of wood, leaving the surface exposed and more susceptible to weathering. Sealing is almost always needed after this process. After a general cleaning, sealing isn't automatically necessary if the existing sealant is still intact. You can test the surface by placing a few drops of water on it. If the water beads up, the sealant is working. If it soaks into the wood, it's time to apply a new sealant. If it has been a few years, it's wise to remove the old sealant, wash the deck, and reseal for maximum protection.

Waterproof paint creates a barrier to hold back moisture, but it doesn’t eliminate the source of the water. If you hire a basement waterproofing contractor, many will tell you that waterproof paint is only a temporary solution. On average, you can expect it to last from six months to two years in a wet basement before deteriorating.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.
