"While the quality of work and clean up performed by the crew was outstanding and Iâ m pleased with the finished product the crew didnâ t arrive until almost 11 and didnâ t leave until 9 PM. While I appreciate the goal of a new bathtub/shower replaced in as little as a day working until 9 PM is not acceptable. When setting up the appointment it needs to be stated very clearly what the expectations are for the day. As I said, Iâ m very happy with the finished product but 20k which includes no installation cost is way too much for what was actually provided."
"Jeff Veglia and his team did a great job on my condo renovation after we suffered extensive damage from a water leak. The project included a complete kitchen remodel, custom cabinets, plumbing, electrical, ceramic tiles, and all new plaster walls. Also replaced were dining room, living room and bedroom hardwood floors, and new plaster ceiling and vinyl flooring in the basement. We are very grateful to Jeff for his responsiveness and professionalism on this project."
"We hit the lottery with John and his team. They were totally professional but also personable. They came every day and, by and large, did not use sub contractors, so that we got to know the folks that were in out house for weeks and weeks. Gary, who was in charge of our project, was beyond amazing. We did a gut to the studs in our 1939 kitchen and in less than 7 weeks from start to finish they transformed it into something the 21st century can be proud of. They were neat and respectful throughout the process. Their work reflected attention to the smallest details. In the beginning, John listened carefully to my plan, disagreeing with some of my ideas and explaining why. I agreed with some of his wise suggestions and held firm to others (Yes, I wanted an island even though the kitchen is small) and he found a way to make it work. He worked within out budget without scrimping on quality or materials. We just simply could not be happier, and are having them back in the spring to replace windows and re-do our front porch. Before, during, and after photos attached. My only reservation is that once more people realize what a gem this company is, it will take forever to book them ;-)"
"Chris Reynard and Long Baths transformed our old Master Bath shower from old and ugly to new and easy to clean in just a day. Worth every penny and we would hire them again!"
"I am very pleased with the work completed by Crystal Renovations in my home. The company's owner, Pedro Quissalga, is knowledgeable and has a fantastic crew. He implemented the bathroom, laundry, and closet design ideas beautifully. A critical positive factor was communication. Pedro was responsive to my questions and concerns. He kept me informed every step of the way during the construction. Another important factor was their care in keeping the renovation project clean and organized. The team was also mindful of how the construction may impact the rest of the building and did their best to keep the noise level down. I highly recommend Crystal Renovations."
"We were very happy with Bob Ayotte and his team and would hire them again. We hired Ayotte Home Improvements to remodel the two and a half bathrooms in our ~25-year old house. In the two full bathrooms they stripped everything down to the studs, replaced vanity, counter tops, sinks, and toilets, and installed tile in the new bath/showers. They started demolition in January and received final sign-off from the local building inspector in April. Bob’s team was very respectful of the rest of our house, doing everything within their power to reduce the spread of dust and dirt from the construction areas. All work done was high quality. Of exceptional note was the tile work. Brian at Nashua Tile was extremely helpful in choosing the right style and colors for the bath/shower tiles to coordinate with our counter tops and overall color scheme. Kirk, who installed the tiles did a meticulous job and the result added a real visual “pop” to the two full bathrooms. As with any project of this scope, there were issues to be transcended. When the newly installed shower plumbing leaked, Bob recalled his plumber to address the issue through the hallway wall and arranged for re-plastering and painting. Similarly, when the wrong toilet and fixtures were installed and the faucet leaked, the plumber fixed the issue with little to no impact to the overall schedule. Bob’s allowances were reasonable, allowing for “better” on a scale of “good, better, best”. Our selections, which included some “best” toilets and shower fixtures, came in very close to Bob’s original allowances. Bob’s preferred suppliers were easy to work with, although those with 9 to 5 jobs may find their scarcity of evening and weekend hours problematic. Overall, a great experience!"
"New electrical and plumbing work was done in an old house to install new laundry appliances on a second floor. The job was complex and D&S Partners did an excellent job of planning, installation, and finishing work. They also did an excellent job of replacing a rear deck that fit well with the style of the house."
"We have an older house and bathfitters made it feel brand new. I love our new bathroom! Surrounding walls WERE brown, rust in color from years of hard water stains. NOW the walls are super white, bright and look amazing. The work was done in a day like they told me. Dustin was cleaning up as he was working throughout the day. I REALLY can't believe that old bathroom looks brand new, I LOVE IT!"
"Humberto and his team were punctual, thorough, and precise in the work they did at our home. We were finishing a complete renovation and needed the entire home painted - including wall repair. They were there every day and worked seamlessly with the other trades in the house - even though the carpenters ran behind and hardwood floor refinishing needed to be accommodated, H&S made everything run smoothly. The quality of the work has been very good and the team has come back for touch-ups as the project finished. I'd highly recommend using H&S - they were so incredibly professional and and good at keeping us updated."
Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts
Acrylic tubs are extremely durable and rarely chip or crack. Even when frequently used, tubs made with this material are largely resistant to damage. However, damage may occur as the tub ages. They can also crack from damage from heavy objects and cleaners or a lack of support.
Whether replacing a bathtub with a shower affects your home's value depends on several factors, with the most significant being whether it's the only tub in the house. Removing the sole bathtub can lower a home's value because many prospective buyers, particularly families with young children or pets, require at least one.
However, a tub-to-shower conversion can also increase home value. A modern walk-in shower is often seen as an upgrade in a secondary bathroom and can be a desirable feature for its accessibility and style, appealing to older homebuyers or those without children. The overall impact is also influenced by your local real estate market and its typical buyer demographic.
If your bathroom layout allows, installing both a freestanding bathtub and a separate shower can be an ideal solution that appeals to the widest range of potential buyers.
The average cost to convert a tub to a shower is around $3,000, but prices can range from $1,000 to as high as $15,000. A more typical range is between $1,200 and $8,000. The final cost depends on several factors, including the amount of plumbing work required, the size of the shower, and the type of materials and fixtures chosen. A prefabricated shower stall is a more budget-friendly option, while a custom shower with features like luxury tiles, unique tiling, smart technology, or accessibility features will be at the higher end of the cost spectrum.
Completing a full standard bathroom remodel offers the best value, with an average return on investment (ROI) of 70%. However, you don't need a full remodel to make an impact. To maximize value, focus on key components like flooring, the tub and shower, vanity, and cabinets. High-value upgrades include installing a walk-in shower, resurfacing a tub, retiling, or expanding the shower. For more budget-friendly options that still increase value, consider repainting with a light, neutral color, or updating the mirror and light fixtures. It's also crucial to address any necessary repairs, such as leaks, mold, or cracked tiles, as buyers will notice these issues. Avoid flashy upgrades like bathtub jets or steam showers, which don't add as much value.
Of the two most common and affordable bathtub materials, acrylic is notably better. Though fiberglass is cheaper, it is also more prone to scratching, chipping, fading, and cracking. Acrylic holds up better to wear and tear, cleaning, and sun exposure; the slight cost increase is usually worth the increased longevity.
