"Jason and his team installed recessed lighting throughout my home and rewired my kitchen during a renovation. They were on time and worked efficiently. Cleaned up after themselves too! They didn't leave dust and debris everywhere. Very impressed and will hire again."

"1) SOS electric arrived 1 hr after my call and identified quickly the small fire at the back of the motor as the cause of dead filtration system of my inground swimming pool. Fire was caused by inproper contacts between the switch and the motor. SOS Electric replaced partially burned contact into proper one and soon filtration system was up and running. 2) Light over garage door didn’t have motion sensor. SOS Electric went to Home Depot and got the new light with motion sensor. Soon it was installed properly, adjusted to optimal sensitivity and works perfectly."

"Kyle has worked with us before on smaller electrical projects. This project, though, is by far the largest Kyle's company has done on site. Kyle and his crew worked seamlessly with Grand Light who restored our 90-year-old sanctuary light fixtures (Phase 1 of an immense project). They came early to disconnect what wiring they could and were on hand during the entire process of light removal. When the lights were ready to be reinstalled, Kyle made the trip to CT to get the poles he needed to hang before the lights arrived. He did that in advance of the lights and was here the entire time the lights were reinstalled. Kyle has been in constant contact with our trustees, our festival lighting director, the restoration company, and our staff concerning all aspects of his work. Kyle's offered excellent suggestions and explained the job easily and concisely. His willingness to troubleshoot our light dimming problem is above and beyond the required work but he sees it as part of the whole package, a way to ensure that everything is perfect before he calls it done."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

Yes, outdoor lights and receptacles should be on a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) for safety. The outdoors is considered a wet location where GFCI protection is generally required. A GFCI enhances safety by automatically tripping and shutting off the circuit if it detects an imbalance, which protects against electrocution and reduces the risk of an electrical fire. While it is the safest approach for all outdoor electrical components, specific requirements can vary depending on the type of light (e.g., pool lights), its location, and local electrical codes. For guidance tailored to your specific situation, it's best to consult a professional electrician.

There are a number of reasons that landscape lights burn out, including an incorrectly installed transformer, inconsistent voltage, and burned-out or faulty bulbs. Troubleshoot landscape lighting problems by first determining whether it’s a system-wide problem or an issue with just one light, which will help you get to the bottom of your outdoor lighting woes.

Durations range from an hour for simple jobs to full workdays for significant upgrades.

If you need to visually inspect your Christmas lights to determine which are good and which need replacement, there are a few things to look for. First, look for discoloration, such as a dark spot or two on the inside of the glass. The spot is an indication of a burnt filament. Also, look for missing filaments, cracked bulb glass, and broken sockets.

Yes, professional landscape lighting is typically worth the investment. Installing a lighting system can improve your home’s curb appeal, safety, and security, and it can also deter burglars. It adds value to your home by creating a brightly-lit outdoor space you can use after dark and making the property more appealing to potential buyers. According to the National Association of Realtors, landscape lighting can add up to $2,500 to your home’s value, and on average, this type of home improvement has a 50% return on investment.
