"I recently had the pleasure of working with Champ Electrical, and I was thoroughly impressed with their professionalism, efficiency, and quality of work. From the initial consultation to the final installation, their team demonstrated excellent communication and technical expertise. What stood out most was their attention to detail and commitment to safety. They explained every step of the process clearly and ensured that all work was compliant with the latest electrical codes. Whether it was troubleshooting an existing issue or installing new wiring, their electricians were knowledgeable, courteous, and respectful of our property. Pricing was transparent and fair, with no hidden costs. Scheduling was also smooth—they arrived on time and completed the job within the estimated timeframe. If you're looking for a reliable and trustworthy electrical company, I highly recommend Champ Electrical. They truly live up to their name, delivering championship-level service every time."

"Punctual and professional. All of the work was completed right on schedule. They upgraded my entire home and replaced electrical panel. Definitely hiring again; I have them scheduled to repair the sprinkler system electrical work and the fans in both my bathrooms. The cost was surprisingly affordable! I cannot recommend enough."

"If I could give this company an A+++ I would. From the beginning, the entire job was explained over the phone, very detailed and 100% transparent. No surprises. The work was scheduled immediately an ended up being completed 3 weeks ahead of schedule- which is key when you're entering winter and you need a generator for blackouts in stormy weather. The installers showed up on time on every single occasion. They were quick, reliable, NICE, clean, and steadfast. The management kept me informed by telephone each time they were coming by my property and explained exactly what they were completing that day. The entire job was completed in roughly 8 days including permits. I have also contacted Cape Cod Independent Power post install and they respond 100% of the time in an extremely quick manor. I've been dealing with contractors for over 20 years and this team is one of the best I have ever dealt with. A true pleasure to work with."

"He was on-time, but was frustrated that there was no parking due to all the snow.  He was going to cancel, but we were able to find him a spot.  Initially he seemed a little annoyed with the circumstances, but ended up being really nice and helpful.  He had never installed a microwave before, so he was going through the directions along with me, but we got it up.  He patched up a hole we had, then a few shelves.  We ended up getting along really well, and he was kind enough to split his time within two visits, since we didn't have one of the items that we initially thought we would have.
Overall it was a really good experience.  It was a rocky start, but after we got over the parking situation, he was professional, and really helpful with everything we needed from his end.
We were very happy with their service, thank you!

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Portable generators provide backup power for essential appliances during outages and are easy to relocate.

If you have a transfer switch properly installed, the generator and main electrical power cannot feed the system at the same time. However, you should still shut off the power at your main circuit breaker panel before activating the generator. If you do that, you’ll simply need to shut off the generator and reset your circuit breaker once the local power comes back on.

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

Here’s what you can run with different wattages and types of generators:

Portable generator:

  • 2,000 watts can handle a large appliance like a freezer or refrigerator, plus a few smaller items like phones or computer chargers.

  • 4,000 watts will keep two large appliances operating and a few smaller devices.

  • 8,000 watts should power most essential appliances and other devices, including a sump pump, well pump, or your dishwasher.

Partial to whole-house generator:

  • 20,000 watts and above will make it seem like your home’s power is still on.

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.
