"Couldn't be happier doing business with Sila. The experience was smooth from start to finish. The salesman gave us multiple, detailed quotes for alternate manufacturer products and recommended products. We then worked with Gage who was able to assist with a rebate. The techs worked neatly, quietly and completed the work in one afternoon. Sila will be my go to for all future Plumbing/HVAC work."

"The two-day process began with duct cleaning by a very conscientious Randy who took pictures showing before and after. The Aeroseal process followed the next day with Randy and his supervisor. These two guys were great. We start out with 5 out of 5 stars! Aeroseal Process, developed by the D.O.E., seals ductwork gaps up to 5/8". There was little odor. The aerosol permeated our home with a thick fog. Soon every smoke alarm in the house was activated, but our team were surprisingly well-practiced in disarming detectors. Good thing I remembered to call our security alarm company. We opened windows and doors, thankful it was a mild midwinter day. The two 3'X3' active filtering units set up beforehand in our living space looked impressive but were of little help. The house needed cleaning afterward. We were not forewarned about any of this. Minus 1 star. All Aeroseal air duct certified technicians are qualified to run a program made by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) called ?Duct Investor?. Duct Investor takes a comprehensive list of variables and provides a homeowner with the best available estimate of what they should realize in cost savings. I asked specifically for this data on several occasions. I was told my request went to a different supervisor. I called back. No follow-up. Nothing. Minus one star. So, was it worth $1500.00? According to our heating fuel company, and BEFORE the Aeroseal Process, we had already managed to reduce our heating energy usage on our own by 17% when compared with other homes our size in our area. The Aeroseal Process increased that number by an additional 12%. Energy is cheaper right now and without any hard central A/C data, and if energy costs remain the same, we estimate it would take 6-7 years to save enough energy to have this service pay for itself.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

To reset your air conditioner, start by turning it off at the thermostat. Then, shut off power to the AC system at the circuit breaker. Some units have a dedicated "reset" button; if yours does, press and hold it for three to five seconds. If your air conditioner doesn't have a reset button, or if you are resetting it after a power outage, leave the circuit breaker off for at least 30 minutes to allow the system to reset itself. Afterward, turn the power back on at the breaker, turn on the AC from the thermostat, and set it to "cool" to test the system.

If your AC unit isn’t cooling and you haven’t figured out why, there are a few good reasons to turn it off ASAP. The source of the issue, whether that be leaking refrigerant or a broken compressor, will worsen and cause more damage to the overall unit the longer the machine is allowed to run. When in doubt, shut it down until you or an AC pro can ensure everything is working properly.

Yes, a mini split AC system can replace central air—and quite easily, too. Since mini splits don’t require ductwork, homeowners can convert their central air system to a mini split to save money and energy. Consult with an HVAC professional to learn more about the process of replacing your central air with a mini split.

You might notice that your air conditioner isn’t running as effectively as it once did. Specifically, your AC unit could take longer to cool your home, or it might struggle to remove humidity from the air. Higher utility bills and hissing sounds coming out of your AC could also indicate a leak.

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.
