"They arrived on time,  were professional and answered a lot of question.  It took about three hours and two people came to do this.  They left the area mostly clean.  They did leave some stickers on the windows that I had to pull off.  I would tell friends and family that they should research the price on windows to make sure they are not over paying."

"Steve Hutchins is a talented craftsman. My wife found his business on Angie's. We hired Steve to add a room in our basement. He kept us well informed during the build out. There were no surprises or extra costs. The fit and finish was done to perfection. One thing that anyone who has had a contractor working in there home can appreciate is the clean up. When Steve left every day the space was so clean you wouldn't have known he was there if you didn't see the progress he made that day. I would highly recommend Hutchins remodeling!"

"

Another A+ job by Dave and his crew! Our house is 100 years old, and required a lot of sanding/priming and meticulous painting to look nice. The end result is fantastic, and we couldn't have been happier. Dave and his crew also have great ideas, and really good taste. It is so nice to have found a contractor that we can trust to take good care of our home.

This house had asbestos tile to be removed, rotted clapboard to be removed, several framing and insulation repairs, and reproduction moulding created on site and installed.

"Sharif Mohamed and his crew did exactly what they said and did it perfectly. My new porch is cute, sturdy, and functional. It’s so nice to work with a polite, timely, and responsible contractor who does quality work. I will be having them back to replace the front porch next. Well done."

"My family and I were looking for handyman services for a variety of repairs in our home. However, we had a short time frame to complete the repairs. We called “Mr. Fix It” and they understood our time constraints and scheduled a quick assessment of the repairs the very next day after my initial contact. Lorenzo was honest about his schedule and delegated one of his team members to do the job, which was completed in less than two days. At the completion of the project, my family and I had a new storm door installed, a brand new office space set up, another storm door fixed, heavy curtain rods installed throughout the house, and heavy mirrors and paintings securely fixed on the walls. Apart from assembling multiple pieces of office furniture, Lorenzo’s team member was helpful and patient as we asked him to move the furniture around to organize and decorate my home office. This was a tedious task that was handled gracefully and with helpful advice that certainly contributed to a practical and wonderful home office space. I highly recommend Mr. Fix it because apart from the reasonable price we were quoted for our repairs, they offered to help pick-up materials from the Hardware store and clean up the boxes from the furniture packages and my recent move for a small fee. Lorenzo’s team’s professionalism and work ethic are a few of their best assets. Their work is top notch and they conducted themselves in a very professional manner. Mr. Fix it is not only our preferred handyman but we have hired him for additional repairs and renovation projects for our home."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

Proper Murphy bed installation minimizes the risk of wall damage. A secure attachment requires making some holes for anchors or brackets, but these can be easily patched if the bed is removed. To ensure the installation is done correctly and safely, hiring a professional is recommended, especially if you have limited DIY experience.

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.
