"Bob is very detail oriented and worked hard. He works by the hour so it is important to me that he worked dilligently and smartly so that i was not wasting my money. he knew what he was doing with carpentry and did a thorough job. he had to match the flooring in a section and install it so that it fit visually with little to no seam which he did a great job on. For the cabinetry work he had good ideas on how to proceed and gave us several options. he is very experienced so he is perfect for problem solving a complex fix or project."

"All the work came out masterfully. See the photos attached photos to review for yourself. If concerned as I might have been earlier in the project that a dozen+ jobs would result in overages, this wasn’t the case. Vanny and Tony's open communication led to this positive result. There might have been one related to bathroom, but it was traded back earlier in the project when the purchased carpet was too small for the upstairs closet - Tony paid for the extra carpet and installation. Vanny and Tony are perfectionists. They demand the highest performance of themselves and their subcontractors. I cannot recommend them enough for large scale projects. If you have any questions about Vanny and Tony’s engagement and handcraft, don’t hesitate to email me through Angie’s List. Regards, Scott Project Cost: $42,500 Length: 6.5 weeks contiguous from beginning to end"

"This team was very professional, worked quickly and fit themselves into our schedule beautifully. The work was gorgeous, many people have commented that they love our “new” cabinets, not realizing that they are in fact just refinished! Would highly recommend!"

"Larry and Cheryl, of DeVaux Home Improvement, did a fabulous job with the painting and carpentry work on my 100 year old Craftsman Bungalow! It was a challenging feat which they had accomplished with a high level of professionalism. I plan to contract with DeVaux Home Improvement for other projects next year. I highly recommend them for their craftsmanship, their meticulous care and their dedication to quality work! - Roberta Ingemi of Wakefield, MA"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.

Yes, new home construction will always require building permits, no matter where you live. In most cases, you’ll need a general construction permit, along with plumbing and electrical permits for the utility lines in your home. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find that you also need permits for things like connection to a sewage system or installing exterior components, like decks, driveways, patios, and curb cutouts. Leave navigating the permits required for new home construction to a professional to ensure your home is built legally and safely.

You'll find Arts and Crafts homes across the country in varying styles. On the East Coast, bungalows and Tudor Revivals fill the Boston area through New Jersey. In the West, Mission-style homes incorporate terracotta shingles, white stucco siding, and rounded archways.

Structural engineers draw structural plans, which include detailed drawings of the structural components of a home only. Complete house plans will require additional work from an architect or draftsperson, whose drawings will take the structural drawings into account. They’ll also include more details about the finishing materials and layout of a home, including everything from roofing and flooring materials to the position of furniture, light fixtures, switches, and plumbing fixtures.

The process typically takes 2-6 weeks, depending on the project size and level of customization.
