Phalan Construction & The Handyman

We hired Bob for the second time after having a very positive experience with him the first time around. We collected a number of tasks for him to repair, including: Rot in the front door frame, diagnosing some leakage issues that we had in the basement, repairing additional exterior rot and repairing / cleaning our dryer vent. As always, Bob handled them methodically and exceptionally. Great quality of work which also successfully stopped the leaks in our basement. Would recommend him again in a heartbeat

Bob tackled a particularly tricky replacement of a revolving shelf unit in an under counter kitchen cabinet. He came up with a unique solution that not only replaced the shelves but also resulted in smoother operation. He also replaced an exterior screen door that had been damaged by a wind storm. Because of the age of the house, the available doors were too large to fit the existing opening. Once again Bob was able to design a solution to custom fit the door. We are quite pleased with the quality of his workmanship.

Bob helped me out to replace old ducting for a kitchen hood vent from a smaller size to a bigger one to prepare for new larger kitchen hood that I will be installing. He went above and beyond what I was was hoping for the project including adding a thermal break, additional insulation and damper to the vent that I did not think of. He was great to work with and had great recommendations for future projects at home. I will totally work with him again in the future.

We hired Bob at first to do a few smaller repairs, repairing a fence post, replacing our back door, and replacing a basement window and dryer vent. Then, we hired him for a larger project to replace our bulkhead basement door. It was a pretty complicated project, made more complex by the fact that our house is 100 years old. Bob ended up building the doors themselves and in addition, new stairs to the basement, and doing a bunch of concrete work too shore up the existing opening. He was very communicative with us throughout the entire process. We had a budget and he worked with us to propose various approaches that would stay within our budget. Once he started the project, he worked diligently to finish it as quickly as he could, and kept us posted of any updates as he worked on it. We would highly recommend him to do any projects – the quality of his work is excellent, his communication is very good as is the value. He has so much experience – you won’t regret hiring him!

I am a new customer of Phalan Construction. entirely pleased with the quality of services delivered. I hired Bob to reattach a fallen roof shingle, wall-mount a clothes rack, and power wash and stain my rear deck. As various as these jobs were, each was promptly and efficiently done to a high standard. Bob's charges were transparent and fair, and he was also a pleasant guy to have working around the house. Bob Phalan has been our go-to handyman for the past 3-4 years. First of all, he is the rare contractor/workman who communicates and shows up when he says he will, often confirming the night before or calling when he’s on his way. We greatly appreciate his reliability. Over the years, Bob has done such a variety of projects for us that I can’t enumerate them all; but in the past year he has done painting, roof repair, carpentry, power washing, gutter cleaning and more. We engaged Bob Phalan of Phalan Construction to do a number of small to medium size projects in our home, including: building and installing stairs from the kitchen to garage, building/ finishing/ installing a stair handrail, building/ finishing/ installing doors for an existing kitchen cabinet, repairing 2 sinking decks, getting rid of squeaks in the floor, leveling a number of doors. Bob does excellent work, he really knows his stuff and is a master craftsman in all kinds of home projects, especially carpentry. Bob Phalan has done many projects for me over the past four years. Some have been very small and straightforward (replacing weatherstripping, hanging pictures, fixing light fixtures, etc.). Others have been large (painting an entire condo, for example.). But what really distinguishes Bob's work from that of others is his ability to apply his ingenuity when a solution is not obvious. For example, he had to figure out how to construct enhancements to the exterior of my home to prevent insect penetration and nesting of birds in circumstances where there was no "off the shelf" solution available and his original creations have been quite successful. In addition, he is a pleasure to work with. He is definitely my "go-to" guy for all sorts of handyman work.

Bob did several jobs around my place. Hung 2 metal door awnings, 2 storm doors installed and carpentry work He did everything great and is meticulous and a real pro. I know it's going to be done right with Bob. He's done a lot of other jobs for me and that's why I always go back to him. He is highly recommended

Bob is the best! He’s done fantastic work on various small projects for us. He installed French doors, patched a large hole in the ceiling and closet wall, fixed our dryer connection and more. He takes real care in his work and makes sure to communicate well on what you want and how he is going to achieve it. I really can’t say enough nice things!

Bob was prompt and detail oriented in doing a couple home repairs. He thoroughly cleaned up the spaces after completing the work which we greatly appreciated. He was reasonably priced and very professional.

Mr. Phalan took care of a tricky repair to an old style solid wood exterior door on a 2nd floor deck. The door was quite heavy and had several glass panels in it, too. Bob quickly rebuilt the busted hinge and had the old door working “better than new”, in about 30 minutes. Quick and clean job!

He spent time researching the best options, spending considerable time reviewing what the work would entail, purchased the materials, arrived on time and was meticulous in all phases of the work! Bob is a true professional from start to finish. He installed lattice around my deck and shed and added a boarder at the bottom of white vinyl fence which made such a difference in the appearance of the fence, great job!He arrives on time, sets up for the day and never stops working during the day. Excellent workmanship, and takes pride in his work. He cleans up at the end of the day, checks in before he leaves, and always has great ideas and suggestion.
