As a property manager I've worked with dozens of contractors. I'd give Solid State Construction a grade of C-. I hoped that hiring a company that had a project manager and a James Hardie quality control expert I wouldn't have to closely check the work being done. I couldn't have been more wrong. The number 1 problem is all the work is done by subcontractors and the one assigned to my project couldn't have cared less about the quality of his work. Things went south after the old siding was torn off. I was told by the project manager he would walk through and show me any areas where the sheathing was rotten before any repairs were started, that didn't happen. When I saw repairs to the sheathing taking place under a large window I called the project manager, then I found rotten wood under another window sill that I pointed out to the subcontractor. A very expensive door installation was done so poorly I had the manufacturer's rep come out and he gave the installation a "C". The project manager kept sending out the same subcontractor to correct the problem up until that point. I finally said no, send someone else out who knows what he's doing. I was told, that's going to take a couple of weeks so you'll have to wait until another guy is available. So I waited. The project manager called me a liar after I called him out for not doing what he said he would. He finally admitted that he was doing the best he could. I said I know that but it's not good enough. There were countless other problems as well, the 3 above are the worst. This company is a general contractor, no employees do the work. You'd be paying 30% more than other companies and you won't get what you think you're paying for. I can't recommend this company.
