"Long Roofing went above and beyond when installing our roof and gutter. The job turned out more difficult than we thought it would be but Long Roofing made me feel comfortable and reassured that they would fix everything. "Dylan was responsive, fast, courteous and professional. He came out quickly to perform a no cost estimate for the roof cleaning job. I had a lot of moss growing on the roof. He provided me with a reasonable price and was able to perform the work the next day. He communicated throughout and provided a sketch of the roof and itemized the work to be performed. "They beat out the local contractors by quite a bit. I was able to get the roof done plus gutters for less than what the locals were trying to charge just for the roof. Very easy transaction, they were in and out and the day and they cleaned up their mess. The roof looks fabulous!"

Venting a gas water heater out of the roof is preferable in most cases. Heated exhaust gases naturally rise, so a vertical vent pipe is efficient. If you’re trying to vent through a pipe exiting a wall, the angle of the pipe may be more horizontal than vertical, making the venting system less effective. Generally, the term “rolled roofing” refers to MSR (mineral surface roll) roofing. This type of roofing is similar to asphalt shingles but comes in a roll that’s unraveled and installed over your roof deck. There are many types of rolled roofing, including TPO, EPDM, and modified bitumen roofing (aka torch down roofing).

Whether replacing the entire roof or just installing roof shingle replacements in small areas, always pull up the old roof shingles. While you can technically put new roof shingles (but not other roof materials) over old shingles, this can add weight strain to the roof and prevent the new shingles from securing properly to the roof.

You may become so frustrated with the look of moss on your roof that you contemplate whether to clean or replace your roof. Fortunately, you don’t have to go as far as replacing it. After cleaning the moss, you can use a chemical solution to keep it away. For further protection, trim branches that overhang the roof, as fallen seed pods and leaves on the roof allow moisture to collect, encouraging moss growth. Consider adding zinc-coated flashing to the roof, too. As rain washes across the zinc, it leaves zinc particles behind that inhibit moss growth.

You can walk on a TPO roof, but you should only do so when necessary and wear footwear that’s less likely to puncture the surface. If you anticipate needing to frequently walk on your TPO roof, reinforce walkways to protect against punctures. TPO roofing can also be slippery, so in most cases, you’ll want to leave walking on it to the pros.
