"Gil and his crew were very polite, on time and professional. Cabinet assembly and installation, door build out, baseboards and fixing a job that the old carpenter completely messed up. 100% approval rating in all aspects from me."

"Moises Carpentry & Painting did an excellent job! He is a true gem! This job involved some outdoor work repairing woodpecker damage and other bird damage to our window frames. He quoted a fair price and arrived right on time. Instead of just patching he removed the sections of damaged molding and custom cut replacement molding to match the existing sections. Then they came back the next day and painted the new molding to match. They worked hard and efficiently without drama and did a thorough cleanup at the end. I give them my highest recommendation!"

Small jobs welcome

"From our first contact about our project to the final install, we were extremely grateful for Dans work and highly recommend him. We needed a lead-safe contractor, and Dan took all the necessary precautions before and during the installation. He advised us as we chose our door and was flexible, even with a busy schedule, when our door delivery from the manufacturer was delayed several times. We would hire him again for future projects!"

Customers say: True professional

"This deck/porch rebuild is the fourth project I’ve done with Home Pro Services, and I will give them first refusal on any future renovation/construction projects. Apart from the consistently high quality of the work, I appreciate and value the following: Trustworthiness - I have no hesitation having Home Pro working in and around my home while I’m away from the property. Everything is secure when I return. Focus - Home Pro is a small company which doesn’t take on large numbers of jobs simultaneously. A client has their full attention for the duration of the project. Environment - Work areas are kept clean and organized. Collaboration - They work with me to achieve the results I want. Forthrightness about costs/alterations to plans - Any recommended changes to original plans are discussed in advance as are the costs for changes/extras; alternative approaches/costs are discussed. Follow-through - Home Pro will come back to address questions/concerns. In my first project, I had concerns about custom-ordered windows; they returned with the manufacturer to discuss the issue. In addition to the qualities noted above, I enjoy working with both Joe and Jonathan. It’s a pleasure when a contractor offers both professionalism and a cordial working relationship."

"Osmin and his team did a great job replacing our triple-decker back porch. He worked with an architect, that he found, to make sure there were no variances required. This made the permitting process quicker. It was a tricky job because building codes have changed since the porch was first built."

"Excellent! We hired Sanfer and his team after meeting with him a few times and checking references. We really liked his can-do attitude and flexibility. He was easy to talk to and had some design ideas that we chose over the architects. He is a strong builder, meaning he doesnt skimp on making it well made. That was important to me. He has a really great finish carpenter too. Shout out to Edgard! Our remodel was a 4 room, bathroom, 2 floor addition (now a walk out basement/first floor) to accommodate an inlaw apt on the ground floor and office and living room on the first. We also had a small elevator added between the two floors. The pricing was right down the middle compared to others. The elevator installers remarked that the hoistway was the best built they had worked with, which was important since it needed to be within a quarter inch of plumb at any point. We used Sanfer for other smaller add ons and would hire them again for a large or smaller job."

"We could not be more pleased with the work that Joe and his carpenter did to refurbish the porches and basement entryway of our 1890s home. The work was performed promptly, on-budget, and looks beautiful. Trash was picked up neatly and disposed of promptly. Joe is highly responsive and a pleasure to work with. He also helped us with a last-minute plumbing problem. 10/10 would work with again!"

"We had last painted our house over 10 years ago and it was in dire need of carpentry work and exterior painting. I found it very easy to work with Real Painting from the start - they had solutions to all of our needs and the quote was detailed and easy to understand. The carpentry team was very skilled and their work exceeded my expectations for quality. The painting crew did an amazing job preparing the house for painting. They completely stripped the paint in most key areas and sanded the clapboards to perfection. Their attention to detail was immaculate - from caulking all to way to the finishing touches with our two-tone paint scheme. They also kept the site very clean. Everyone on the team was friendly, easy to talk to, and always showed that they cared for me as the customer. I am very happy with the work from Real - they delivered a great product at a reasonable price and within the expected timeframe."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Professionals charge between $60 and $95 per hour to install ornamental porch columns. The amount of time they need varies based on the condition of the porch, whether they need to remove old columns, and if there is any damage to your porch's structure. This cost can increase if more issues come up during the installation process.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.
