"Great. S&S did a fantastic job even had to deal with Home Depot not wanting to replace a warranty unit. I have already hired for other plumbing work and told a dear friend about them who needs work done in their home. They are helpful, courteous, and get the work done and done right. I wish I had found them years ago. I have an old house and will continue to use them. PhysicalThey are the best plumbers I have ever used and terrific owner. A pure pleasure to do business with even under stressful conditions"

Customers say: Quality work

"I heartily recommend Petros Floros of Floros Plumbing & Heating Co. from Melrose, serving the greater Boston area. He is a master Plumber who is expert, reliable and efficient. He has a genial demeanor and is easy to work with. No matter what he is doing, he will manage to fit you in for most immediate emergency jobs and in a reasonable time for the rest. His customer reviews on Yelp and Google and Angi are all sterling. I recently used him for a double install job with a new kitchen faucet and garbage disposal. He whipped through the project and left everything brand spanking new in perfect working order. I have used him in the past and he never disappoints."

"I had the pleasure of working with Gentille Plumbing for a full renovation of my home, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the results. He handled everything — water, gas, and sewer — with the highest level of expertise and professionalism. From start to finish, he was punctual, respectful, and incredibly detail-oriented. Every aspect of the plumbing installation was done efficiently and with great care. He communicated clearly throughout the project, kept the worksite tidy, and ensured that everything met code and functioned flawlessly. It’s rare to find tradespeople who combine technical skill with such a strong work ethic and reliability. Gentille Plumbing delivered top-notch service, and I would highly recommend Him to anyone needing quality plumbing work — whether it’s a renovation, new construction, or repairs. Thank you, Gentille Plumbing, for a job extremely well done!"

"I hired Marcin & his team at Precision Plumbing & HVAC for multiple projects. First to handle all plumbing in a gutted bathroom renovation, then to replace an old gas water heater and furnace with a new high efficiency combi boiler. I've since recommended them to friends and family and would absolutely do so again."

"Superb. We needed to change our water heater and were recommended to go with Clark Plumbing. Bill and his team gave us a great quote and they came to change the tank within the week. They are good honest people and only charge and replace what needs to be replaced (unlike other plumbers you might find around here). I could tell they are really knowledgeable and passionate about their work by the way they explained the physics and engineering of our system. Great to work with them and highly recommend."

"[Overall impression] How many times did I her Joe saying "Sure!" and "We can do that!" since we started our bathroom remodeling project last summer? Countless. Joe and his team have transformed an old bathroom of ancient construction to new, comforting, soothing heaven, with no headache/hustle/annoyance throughout the project. Craftmanship Joe put in the detail was above and beyond. The door originally painted in solid color was decorated as if it were stained to match its style to the door near the bathroom. There is no gap at all in trims installation. Every part was installed at a perfect angle. All electric parts and plumbing functions flawlessly. And more importantly, all issues that would have been neglected by other contractors are still addressed! [Project Detail] We started our plan to remodel the bathroom in spring of 2017. A designer was hired to perform a rough drawing of the new bathroom on which a couple of construction companies were invited to propose bids. Among three we received bids, Joe provided us the most competitive bid but lots of personal touch in the proposal. His proposal was not a copy/paste from his previous job. He scribbed his plan, and contingency plans specially tailored for our remodeling and responded quickly to the changes we requested. The construction started while we are away on vacation, and it turned out it was the right choice we made. By the time we came back from the vacation, the demolition was all done, and rough installation including discussion with city inspector to make everything in order. The rest of the installation including plumbing, electricity, tiling, vanity and tub installation all happened flawlessly. I found out and later appreciated, that Joe's goal was to provide a functional bathroom to our family as soon as possible and work on detail then. In retrospect, that was a very wise strategy as Joe spent extra attention and time to make all installation complete until we finish the project. When we had issues with plumbing or some detail was not in the original plan, Joe addressed them after we started using the bathroom. We recently identified a minor issue with bathtub installation, which I believe Joe will address by saying "Sure!". [Logistics] As Angie's list user, I care a lot about the ease of communication with contractors particularly. No one uses a web to find a contractor using the internet, and ended up using a phone to communicate with them! I am a busy professional who rarely uses a phone for business. Likewise, I expect my contractor to use emails (and texts) for communication. Joe was perfect in that regard. All of his communication including invoicing were all electronic. I could communicate, pay, request changes all by email when I am away for the business trip. There was no ", please meet me Thursday noon to discuss the project" with Joe. If you are one of them who has meetings or things to do during daytime (which most of the people reading this report would be), hire Joe. [Tips and expectation for future customers] A couple of things a prospective customer should know and expect before she starts to work with Joe. 1) Demolition, carpentry works, titling are all performed by Joe's in-house employee or someone Joe constantly work with. This employee seems to be more engaging to our project, and responsive to Joe's commands. He is a very skilled carpenter. 2) Plumber, electrician, and painters Joe brings in from outside company are top notch but seem to be in high demand. They tend to show up on later days than Joe says they would. They did amazing jobs. Thus it was worth waiting for them for extra days or a week. But you just have to gauge your expectations to this reality and don't get yourself stuck at home waiting for them. We used our keypad lock to let them, but we felt we were neglected in the beginning when we didn't know these outside contractors pattern. 3) Since external contractor relies on parts delivered to our house by a courier service when Joe or I was not present at my home, no one was really in charge of inventory control. There were a couple of occasions the external contractor could not find the parts to be installed on the day they showed up. I will hire Joe again for sure, but Joe and I have to come up with a better way to receive items, identify them, and provide them to contractors accurately. Perhaps, shipping all items to Joe's attention can be a solution to avoid the confusion. [Conclusion] I will hire Joe for any project we will perform for our house. His craftsmanship and personal attention I received are addictive. I also learned how I could work with him; perhaps he knows me more too. I hope this review will lead to creating happier customers like me."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Selecting the right materials for plumbing depends heavily on the local climate. Allston experiences harsh winters, making freeze-resistant pipes essential for uninsulated spaces. Because the municipal water supply uses chloramines, you must choose compatible rubber gaskets and pipe materials to prevent premature wear. Always ensure your chosen supplies comply with the strict MA state code to pass local inspections and keep your property safe.

Helpful?

A correctly completed plumbing job in Allston requires a closed permit on record. A licensed professional must pull this permit, and a final inspection sign-off confirms full code compliance. In older multi-family buildings, proper work includes installing isolation valves for each unit and removing outdated lead pipes. Post-installation, you should experience steady water pressure without fluctuations across different units in the property.

Helpful?

Several types of professionals handle plumbing in Allston. A master professional holds the highest credential and pulls required permits for your project. Journeymen and apprentices perform daily tasks under direct supervision. For properties with gas service, hire a separately certified gas fitter to handle those specific lines. Projects touching the public street connection require specialized contractors approved by the local municipal water commission.

Helpful?

Distinguishing between plumbing and other repairs requires careful observation. If you notice wet basement walls only after rain, hire a waterproofing contractor rather than a plumber. Wet spots on ceilings directly below bathrooms indicate an internal pipe leak. In MA, sewer odors during dry weather point to a dry trap or vent issue, while odors during heavy storms point to municipal drainage problems.

Helpful?

As homes age in Allston, plumbing systems require progressive updates. Properties built before 1940 originally featured lead or galvanized pipes, which now require mandatory replacement. Mid-century copper retrofits are also approaching the end of their lifespan and need attention. High renter turnover and deferred maintenance accelerate wear on fixtures and drains. For buildings over a century old, a full repipe becomes an essential upgrade.
