"The owner came to see our project, discussed my goals, and agreed that he would be back to do the project in two days. He called that morning and said that he would be here at 9 AM. He arrived promptly, brought quality equipment, truck trailer, and his assistant. The assistant is an expert tree climber. Before I knew it, he was up in the tree secured by a rope and a safety harness. Our tree had been twisted in a windstorm and half of it was cracked and needed to be removed, and we hoped to save the other half. They pruned off the outer edges of all of the branches to manageable sizes, dropped them to the ground, and ultimately cut off the main part of the trunk. It was expert top notch, 100% accurate every step of the way. Then they removed all of the debris, raked up the sawdust and left the yard in perfect condition. I couldn't be happier with their work and would recommend them highly to anyone looking for a high-quality expert tree service. And it was very reasonably priced"

"Very professional and efficient. We had a dead tree that needed removed and no one else would do it due to close proximity to power lines and being in a dense neighborhood. He removed the tree cleanly and didn’t charge me an arm and a leg to do it. We would definitely use him again!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

For safety reasons, leaning trees are best removed by a professional, as they may often tear away from the hinge, causing you to lose control over where the tree falls. If you choose to cut down a tree leaning slightly, avoid cutting off root protrusions before you start. Make your hinge a little longer than usual by cutting it deeper (up to 30% of the diameter) and applying a wedge into the felling cut on the side the tree is leaning. Stand away from the direction the tree leans while making your felling cut.

Tree removal can be quite expensive, especially for larger projects, but you can use the following tips to help keep costs down:

  • Do the yard cleanup afterward yourself

  • Choose to leave the logs on your property and split them yourself

  • Opt to leave the stump in the ground and tackle stump grinding yourself

  • Pull permits for tree removal, if necessary, to avoid fines

  • Pay to have multiple trees removed at once

  • Remove tree in the late winter or early spring during off-season

If tree branches cross well into your property line, in many cases, these branches become part of your property, and you can trim them up until your neighbor’s property line. However, this issue will vary based on local ordinances, so you should do your research before making any decisions. Better yet, speak with your neighbor about how to handle any tree issues.

If you don’t mind the branches, you can leave them be, but if they’re becoming a hazard, it’s definitely worth having a conversation.

In some states and municipalities, you will need a permit to remove a tree on your property. In many cases where permits are required, a tree must reach a maximum height before a permit is required to remove it. You can either ask your local building department or a tree removal professional if you’ll need a permit. If you do, you can expect to pay between $50 and $150 for the permit alone. Your tree removal company should pull the permit for you and include the permit fee in your total.

It’s possible, although a lot depends on the cause of damage and what steps you take. If the remaining parts of the maple tree are alive and not under attack by disease or pests, they can often be saved even if large portions of the maple tree have died. Frequent watering, careful pruning, mulch, and any recommended fungicides or insecticides can all help with survival.
