"The owner came to see our project, discussed my goals, and agreed that he would be back to do the project in two days. He called that morning and said that he would be here at 9 AM. He arrived promptly, brought quality equipment, truck trailer, and his assistant. The assistant is an expert tree climber. Before I knew it, he was up in the tree secured by a rope and a safety harness. Our tree had been twisted in a windstorm and half of it was cracked and needed to be removed, and we hoped to save the other half. They pruned off the outer edges of all of the branches to manageable sizes, dropped them to the ground, and ultimately cut off the main part of the trunk. It was expert top notch, 100% accurate every step of the way. Then they removed all of the debris, raked up the sawdust and left the yard in perfect condition. I couldn't be happier with their work and would recommend them highly to anyone looking for a high-quality expert tree service. And it was very reasonably priced"

"Jaren is very knowledgeable about landscaping and plants. He is a true professional and we recommend him without hesitation. There was a delay in getting the materials for our project, which was outside his control, and he communicated with us about it. Once he had all the materials, he got started right away and completed the work quickly. He truly did an incredible job. We are thrilled with the results, and our neighbors have raved about it too."

"After seeing a friend recommend Tony Lafoe with Central KY Tree service two years ago, I made a note to myself to call him when we got ready to have some trees cut down. Tony and his crew are second to none. We have dealt with fly-by-night tree services in years past and were so pleased to have found this professional, reputable company. I highly recommend this company if you want the job done right and not be scammed by uninsured tree climbers who are just looking to make a buck."

"Tim came out and took a look at my tree, gave me options and I chose to cut it down. He provided me with a solid estimate with the work to be completed. I cannot begin to tell you what an amazing job the team did for me. Tim and his crew were on time, professional, courteous. They made sure the job was done safely. They had a system in place and moved through it seamlessly! I could not believe how nice a job they did with removing the tree debris, limbs, big branches and trunk. They ground the stump, back filled the considerable hole and cleaned up everything. The price was more than reasonable for the job they completed for me! Leading up to the tree removal (a big oak that was diseased) Tim kept in contact if times or days needed to be changed due to the recent daily rain."

"We hired Roxely's to trim and overgrown tree next to our home. Service was fast and the tree looks great! Our home and roof was protected and all limbs and debris were cleaned up. They do a lot more and I plan on hiring again for additional jobs we have around our home. Highly recommend!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Ivy eventually kills trees by restricting its growth, blocking sunlight, absorbing nutrients and water from the soil, and weakening the tree. Trees with ivy are more likely to experience diseases, pests, rot, and fungi growth. When ivy weighs down tree branches, the tree is more likely to break during a storm and cause damage.

Palm trees are unique in that their roots don't grow straight down; they grow horizontally. Typically, palm tree roots go down between 12 and 36 inches deep. The roots grow far and wide from the base of the palm tree to absorb as much water and soil nutrients as possible. In addition, the horizontal roots are also very strong—keeping palm trees stable and helping them sway during storms.

Opt for a barefoot tree. Pros harvest barefoot trees when they’re dormant (leafless). They shake the dirt from the root ball and pack it in moist material.

These trees can cost half as much as the trees at your local nursery, and you can buy them online—so there’s a much wider selection. Just make sure you keep your barefoot tree cool until you’re ready to plant it.

You may be looking to identify maple trees to use for home improvement projects. In that case, you can tell hard maples by looking at their leaves. Leaves will have a U-shaped dip, or sinus, between the points, or lobes, of the leaves. Leaves of soft maples tend to have V-shaped sinuses.

If you already have the cut wood in front of you, look for a light, uniform color to identify hard maple wood and check for variations of red, gray, or brown streaks and an overall darker color in soft maple wood.

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.
