It may be possible, but transplanting a large, mature tree can be a tricky project, and some trees handle it better than others. You can use a chainsaw, but it won’t remove the entire stump or root ball and is not a recommended method. It takes quite a bit of physical work to achieve and will likely dull or ruin your chainsaw. Instead, consider using salt, herbicide, light deprivation, boiling water, stump grinding, or burning to kill a tree stump. These methods allow you to kill a stump using minimal machinery and physical exertion.

Transplanting a palm tree is a similar process except for a couple of important differences. First, their root ball doesn’t need to be as large as a “true” tree, which makes them a bit easier to dig up and move around. Second, they struggle more with taking root and staying upright in a new location, so it’s important to give them extra support when staking. 

Planting trees far enough from your foundation will protect your home from root damage, but if you’re dealing with existing trees, you can still guard against roots. Root barriers form a physical boundary that will prevent roots from encroaching on your foundation and can help save you from expensive foundation repair costs.
