If the answer is yes to any or all of these questions, you'd better keep looking. Taking the advice of a couple contacts who had much smaller jobs done (some interior work for one, and a bathroom for the other), we hired Gary Dunaway to completely renovate our small house and add a garage with an apartment above it. We re-wired and re-plumbed everything, with Gary charging his percentage on the bills. More than once, we were presented with unattributed bills - bills which specified an amount of money to be paid, but no details. The electrician did this, flooring firm, etc. and Gary's response was - "just pay it." This was strange to us, but Gary assured us he was keeping track of the job and that the firms were charging by the job, not per individual item. We always paid on time, and in full - which was one of our gigantic mistakes. We were told by Gary to explain to the electrician what we wanted for switches, wiring, fixtures, etc. and he'd "take care of it." Well, we not only explained our desires and specifications to the electrician, but to Gary and his foreman as well - for all the good it did us. It really didn't seem like anyone involved with wiring the house paid attention - we now have can lights seemingly haphazardly placed in our kitchen, illogically routed wiring to the breaker panel, chandeliers on the same switch as can lights, etc. The electrician actually mis-wired our electrical in-line hot water heater and our ceiling fans, even though he had the wiring diagrams! Gary told me in a follow-on conversation that "I don't really know anything about wiring a house, I count on my subcontractors to handle that." We certainly wish we had known that he didn't know anything about wiring a house before we hired him as a contractor, and before we paid him to supervise the wiring of our house. Our issues weren't confined to the electrical realm, though, unfortunately. The plumber was maybe worse due to his horrible attitude - he didn't even act like he was paying attention. To be fair, both the electrical and plumbing systems meet code requirements, but neither turned out to be the sort of product one would expect with a ground-up total renovation from an expensive, established contractor. Gary and his crew installed door locks which he knew were faulty (I saw him trying to take the key out of the lock with a pair of pliers) and left them for us to resolve. They also buried the french drains 1/2" below the ground, which exposed the white pvc pipe after the third hard rain. Obviously, we had to contact the hardware shop and work our schedules around getting the locks addressed, and had to re-seat the three drain pipes properly - Gary couldn't seem to find the time to address our issues because, by this point, we had paid him for the work. Calls started taking days, then weeks to be returned. He explained a two-plus week delay in getting back to me by saying he had gone golfing and forgot his phone! As these problems started manifesting themselves, one of our showers started leaking. Gary came over, confirmed it was definitely leaking, then basically left coordination of the repairs, dealing with the bathroom folks, etc. to us. Again, to be fair, Gary's foreman oversaw the repair day for that shower - but it wasn't fixed for OVER FOUR MONTHS!! We have since had additional electrical and plumbing issues, another leaking shower (problematic, as we only had two showers installed in the house), etc. and Gary simply doesn't return calls anymore. He began coordination for the repairs, then abruptly cancelled the day before he was supposed to show up and address the shower - his thoughts seemed to be that we were unreasonably asking for things he shouldn't have to address. We thought it was reasonable to expect leak-free showers - silly us. The reasons for the ratings have to do with the number of issues we have had - as for price, well, Gary told us from the beginning he was expensive. We were under the misimpression that the cost was going to be reflected in the final product. So- a "D" for price is even Gary's admission. Quality has to be a "C" when you have a series of plumbing problems, electrical problems, leaking bathrooms, etc. Responsiveness - well, what would you say if your specifications were ignored during the construction of the house, then it took weeks for your contractor to return a call bacause he was "golfing?" "D" Not sure about the "punctuality" one - we had cancelled appointments that we took leave to address, and had to take leave to address issues we had already paid our GC for, so "D" was assigned here. And by now, the "D" for professionalism should be obvious. In the morning, when I found out which plumbing company was chosen, I called it around 9:30 am to get an ETA. Was told that my house would be on the way to another stop in the same area. I called back at noon for another ETA; was told that the \"other stop\" was more complex; please be patient. I called back at 3:30 pm; was told, \"I thought he'd be there by now.\" Plumber did call me at 4:30 pm to say he was 90 minutes away. He said his dispatch was \"confused\" about where he was working that day and that he was nowhere near me (despite dispatch having had cell phone contact with him all day). Plumber arrived at 6 p.m. Plumber tried to use my outside access pipe to clear the blockage; he said it was improperly installed and that he could not use it. To be fair, I agreed with him. He then recommended that we remove a toilet and access the plumbing that way--however, he said this move was forbidden by the home warranty company. He said he had no choice but would have to leave--sorry. I said, \"Let's call the warranty company and discuss this.\" Warranty company finally agreed to allow removal of toilet to access the plumbing. Plumber snaked the line, but was unsuccessful in clearing it. Plumber re-installed the toilet, then suggested we use the basement access point which, when opened, would unfortunately cause raw sewage to drain into basement (or, in my case, large garbage can) until the pipes were emptied. This we did; he and I caught most of the sewage as it flowed out, and the plumber snaked the line from that point. He said the problem was fixed, closed up the pipes, packed up, and left. He had been there a couple of hours by this point and had spent much time on the phone with the home warranty company. I cleaned up the sewage that had splashed into the basement, and went upstairs to take a shower. It was after 8 pm. The problem had not been fixed; it was no better than before. Sewage was backing up into my bathtub. I called the plumber's cell; no answer, no response to the message I left. I called his dispatch; night dispatcher claimed that the warranty company was refusing to pay for the just-completed service. I called the warranty company; warranty company said that the service would be paid for and that they would call the plumbing company to say so. I called the plumbing dispatcher back; he said had no one to send out the next day to complete the work. Advised me to get someone else. I had to go to a hotel for the night. I did call a local man; the second plumber came the next day. He cleaned the pipe from the \"unusable\" outside access point with a manual snake, and all was well."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ky/richmond/allen%27s-air-and-repair-reviews-5227812.htm"},"position":7}]}

"I typically do not leave reviews, but my experience with Tom Drexler Plumbing was so poor that I feel compelled to share it in hopes of preventing others from wasting their time and money. I initially contacted the company to address a leaking faucet in a spare bathroom. I was given a vague appointment window of 8 AM to 5 PM and informed that if I didn’t answer a call prior to their arrival, the technician would not show up. When the technician arrived, he spent time criticizing the company’s hiring practices rather than focusing on the repair. He determined that a full tub and shower replacement was needed, quoting over $1,000. The work could not be done the same day, requiring me to schedule another appointment. The technician arrived late and took the entire day to complete the job, spending a significant portion of time sitting on my staircase visibly exhausted. The installation was subpar—both the faucet and showerhead were protruding nearly two inches from the wall, and the showerhead was visibly crooked. The faucet and showerhead were protruding so far out they couldn't even be caulked. My wife documented the issues with photos. She sent them to me after the tech left. I immediately called Tom Drexler, informed them of the subpar work, and requested a different technician to correct the poor workmanship. A new technician arrived the following week and made the necessary adjustments. However, within four days of using the shower, a leak developed in the ceiling of the kitchen below, and our toilet began leaking from the base when flushed—suggesting possible plumbing pressure or blockage issues. I contacted the company again and scheduled yet another appointment. Despite being given the same 8 AM to 5 PM time frame, no one showed up, and I had to follow up myself to learn the technician wasn’t coming. Eventually, another technician did visit and claimed the ceiling leak was due to "residual water" and dismissed the toilet issue. When the ceiling stain continued to grow, I called again and requested a supervisor. The supervisor came a week later, concluded that the issue wasn’t related to their work, and left without offering any solutions. Altogether, I had to take four days off work to accommodate this series of visits. I now need to hire another plumber from a different company to resolve the ongoing leak. Based on my experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend Tom Drexler Plumbing. The quality of work, communication, and overall customer service were consistently poor throughout the entire process."

"BUYER BEWARE!!!!! This company is all about getting their $99.00 for the estimate, selling you an annual service fee and then quoting exuberant prices. Not really sure if they really care about doing the actual plumbing work. Recently gave me an estimate for a job of $500. Learned later after from another plumber that what they wanted to do was actually not correct AND should have cost no more than $250. Had I used Fayette Heating / H20 Mastero, I would have paid $600 for a job done incorrectly. At least the 99.00 I paid kept me from damaging my house further. There are a lot of reputable plumbers in Lexington. Suggest you look elsewhere"

FAQs for plumbing handyman service projects in Harrodsburg, KY
The average cost to hire a handyman ranges from about $40 to $140 per hour. Average project cost ranges between $180 and $700, but the cost per hour and per project depends heavily on the type, size, and complexity of the project. The pro’s experience level and your location also factor into how much a handyman charges per hour or per project. You can also expect to pay higher rates or additional fees for emergency services, or around periods of high customer demand, like holidays.
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Do you have any before and after photos of your work?
How long have you been doing this kind of work?
Do you clean up and dispose of waste when the job is finished?
Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
