"I've read reviews from other people, and it's interesting how people can have different experiences. I had a 26X65 concrete slab put in, and culvert put in along with some grading done. Kevin came when he said he would and did what he said he would do. I guess my experience overall was one that hit a lot of different angles. The work done was great, but there were some misunderstandings that was of no fault of Kevin's, but I made them his. One of which was no fault of mine, either, but the company led me down the wrong path painting the picture that what Kevin was supposed to do didn't. As I was out of town, I called him up and voiced my displeasure. He responded very professionally and explained the situation to make me understand that he did do what was asked of him. A couple other times, a text went awry and something else that I have since forgotten. But each time he handled himself professionally and had no attitude despite being falsely accused. I'm sorry to hear of other people's situation, but I can only speak for myself and what I experienced. The other thing that impressed me was Kevin was willing to haul his equipment, and did, from a few hours away to regrade an area that this company said they couldn't get across, which was the companies miscommunication. The other thing is response time. There was one time it took a while for him to respond, but living in a rural area, and given that if you're in the middle of a job, I can't expect someone to always be available. One time we even lost connection due to how things are. Just something to keep in mind if you live in an area with ONE bar : /"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

For asphalt paving in Danville, the base preparation is the most critical step due to the area's expansive clay soil; shortcuts here lead to premature cracking. Proper drainage is also essential to handle Kentucky's heavy rainfall and prevent freeze-thaw damage. Other sensitive areas include ensuring correct compaction before the asphalt cools and installing proper edge restraints to prevent crumbling.

Helpful?

Widespread "alligator" cracking is a primary sign that your asphalt paving needs redoing, as it indicates base failure common in KY's clay soils. Other indicators include significant rutting, standing water from improper grading, or frost heaving after winter. If more than a quarter of the surface shows structural damage or if patches repeatedly fail, a full replacement is likely necessary.

Helpful?

To ensure a smooth asphalt paving project in Danville, start by checking for city permit requirements and any HOA rules. Call Kentucky 811 a few business days before work begins to have underground utility lines marked. Schedule your project for late spring through early fall when temperatures are consistently above 50°F, and build flexibility into your timeline for weather changes.

Helpful?

In Danville, a seasonal routine is key for asphalt maintenance. In spring, check for freeze-thaw cracks and ensure proper drainage after heavy rains. During summer, look for soft spots from heat and assess if sealcoating is needed. In fall, seal any new cracks and clear debris to prepare for winter. Throughout winter, use plastic shovels for snow removal to avoid damaging the surface.

Helpful?

In Danville, KY, be cautious of contractors who solicit door-to-door, demand cash-only payments, or pressure you to sign a contract immediately. A quote that is significantly below the local market average is another major red flag. Always ask for recent local references and insist on a detailed written contract that specifies the asphalt type, thickness, and base preparation details.
