"Pro Home Exteriors did a wonderful job installing my vinyl siding, painting my foundation and staining my porch and deck. Juan and his crews were very professional and explained everything they were doing. My house is beautiful and they stayed on schedule. The clean up after completing the project was great and I am completely satisfied with this project. I highly recommend Pro Home Exteriors for your next vinyl siding or painting project. My deck looks brand new and is much sturdier than even when it was first built. I’ll hire this company again for my next project. Thanks Juan- appreciate the attention to detail and hard work from you snd your crews!"

"I have worked with Patrick over the last 3 years on various commercial and multi family projects and have had nothing but great work from him and his employees. Punctual, hardworking, diligent, attention to detail, does what he says heâ s going to do, literally everything you want from a contractor. 10/10 would recommend for any project any size."

"Daniel did an excellent job. First he was one of the first people to respond to my request. He came over provided me with quote a few days later decided on him and he was out the next day to do power washing. My house had not been painted in 30 years. So the power washing revealed issues of rot and other things not found in the first estimate. He worked with me to find a solution. For instance I had rot along the bottom. This would cost a lot to remove trim and replace all the panel siding. He came up with the solution of a skirt that covered the problem and actually looks good. He and is crew were quick about it and got the job done in 3 days. I liked him so much I have hired him to fix and repair and outside shed."

"I had two estimates for painting my cabinets, walls, window, door and some sheet rock work. Curtis gave me a good and fair price as the others were a lot more. Curtis and his crew did an outstanding job. He is coming back to paint my living room. I highly recommend Fresh Start Painting."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Choosing whether your deck should be lighter or darker than your house is a matter of personal preference, as there is no right or wrong answer. However, considering the pros and cons of each can help guide your decision. Darker colors are often chosen because they show less dirt, footprints, and marks from daily wear, making them easier to keep clean. On the other hand, lighter deck colors tend to stay cooler in the summer. From a design perspective, using a deck color that contrasts with your home's exterior can help make the deck a more defined and distinct feature. Consulting color theory can also make the process of choosing a complementary house and deck color combination easier.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.

Many decking oils can help slow down algae growth, but they don't completely stop it. These oils work by sealing the wood, which reduces moisture and, therefore, algae growth. Some decking oils also help protect against UV damage, but they need to be reapplied according to the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the decking stays protected.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.
