"We hired DW Elite Decks in the Spring of 2020 and it turned out to be a great decision. Dan is one of the best contractors we have ever had work on our home (we have owned 4 homes). We had a somewhat unconventional large double deck built. Dan communicated with us at every turn on status, timing, costs, challenges and proposed solutions in addition to physically showing up on the job often. Dan and Tim listened to and were responsive to all questions and concerns (even the dumb ones). Tim and crew showed up each morning on time, worked hard all day, and were respectful of our home. The result was a great open deck on top with a beautiful screened in living area on the bottom. Dan is willing to go above and beyond in every way. Contractors that check all the boxes and have integrity are very tough to find. Dan Milford at DW Elite decks does that and more!"

"Excellent in every way. Cleaning an elderly hoarders house was overwhelming in many ways. After finally finding the floor through junk, trash, pet stains, mice, spiders and even a snake, the carpet was filthy and had never been professionally cleaned. The service person was compassionate, kind, and professional and went beyond the call of duty for which I am forever grateful. I’m still surprised at how well the carpet cleaned up against the odds!"

"Rodney was extremely professional and punctual. We were really happy with the end result of his work and are comforted to have someone we trust with this for future projects. Our house looked so much newer, cleaner and well maintained after he was done. Our driveway was several shades lighter and spotless after he cleaned it. He also serviced us very quickly - glad the night before to come out for an estimate and did the job very well the next day!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The problems with composite decking include a high rate of expansion and contraction from temperature swings. This characteristic can cause boards to split, delaminate, or peel. In addition, significant movement can cause shrinking, warping, twisting, and bending. For this reason, you should minimize moisture and ensure proper airflow below your deck.

Pressure-treated lumber is one of the most affordable types of decking upfront. This material is widely available, so you can usually find pressure-treated lumber at almost any local home improvement store you visit. Keep in mind that wood requires a lot of upkeep with repainting and restaining, so any kind of wood may be more expensive in the long run than something like PVC decking.

Trex states that its Trex decking is an eco-friendly composite material made of 95% recycled or reclaimed materials (including plastic and wood), making it a sustainable brand of choice. According to the company, Trex is one of the largest plastic bag recyclers in the U.S., with each 500-square-foot Trex deck containing about 140,000 recycled plastic bags.

If you want to make a deck cleaner from products already in your home, there are various options. The most common is to use a gentle blend of 1 gallon of warm water and 2 tablespoons of ammonia-free dish soap. You can also mix water with distilled vinegar. Sprinkling on some baking soda can help to remove mold and mildew. You can add oxygen bleach (but never damaging chlorine bleach) to the water and ammonia-free dish soap solution for something a bit stronger.

In most cases, your deck will need some form of deck footing to hold it in place, preventing moisture from rotting your wood and decreasing your deck’s lifespan. Concrete deck blocks are the most common type of footing for floating decks. Some homeowners use ground-level deck footings. For added security, consider digging and laying your ground-level footings below ground.
