Four generations of our family have been involved in our storm shelter business. From start to finish—the design, the fabrication, the warranty work, installation and sales. We have installed tornado shelters in the following states: Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Iowa, Illinois, North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, South Carolina and Virginia. Additional phones numbers - (405) 880-1351, (580) 336-1351. Additional DBA - Ground Zero Shelters, Co. Additional fax - (580) 336-1356.

"Perfect. I enjoyed getting to sit in the storm shelters at their showroom to help with size selection. After signing up for the install, they connect you to an online portal to manage the contract and to update building permit number, etc. Installation was prompt and clean."

We are a locally and family owned retail flooring store. Our company has been selling flooring since 1921 and is currently in its fourth generation of family ownership.

"Do not buy their discount flooring. They will lie and false advertise saying it's all in color and when it arrives you will get two different colors. Then they will tell you there's nothing they can do for you because it was sold as a lot as is, even though they misadvertised and put two different colors in the palette when it was all supposed to be one color. Also their delivery truck couldn't make it to my house and I had to go unload it in the heat into my car and put weight in my car. My car could not handle. They also said this was not their problem because they use a third-party company. So I have a whole bunch of flooring that will go in the trash wasted $776 because I do not have all of one color as advertised and the company is refusing to do anything about it saying it was sold as it's sold as is and false advertising? Do not waste your money. Go to a real flooring store or to Lowe's home Depot or Menards. You will have better luck of getting all in color and the correct flooring and not have false advertising cuz you'll actually be able to see it in person"

Hurricane Shutters questions, answered by experts

In many cases, hurricane shutters lower the cost of homeowners insurance. If your storm panels are code-compliant with your state or county (or insurance policy), they may lower your annual premium, even in storm-prone areas. Check with your homeowners insurance company to understand the compliance requirements. Even if your insurer doesn’t lower your premiums, hurricane shutters could save you from costly repairs after a storm.

There are many ways to mitigate wind damage. Some of the most common methods include installing storm windows and doors and wind-rated garage doors. When you get a wind mitigation inspection, the inspector will also assess the condition and shape of your roof to see how well it will withstand strong winds.

Metal is one of the best types of hurricane shutters because they are the most durable and longest lasting option. This shutter type will likely cost more than other materials like plywood, but metal hurricane shutters are a permanent solution compared to the temporary nature of putting plywood over your windows during a hurricane. You should also consider hurricane panels and automatic roll-down shutters that are useful for emergency situations.

Considering the advantages and disadvantages of hurricane shutters can help you decide if they’re the right choice for your home. Some pros and cons include:

Pros

  • Protection against flying debris during hurricanes and other strong storms

  • Many available styles

  • Relatively easy to remove compared to impact windows

  • Customizable to fit your home

Cons

  • Expensive cost

  • Require maintenance

  • Take up significant space

  • Many require you to go outside to operate

If you’re installing hurricane ties, consider other storm-proofing projects. You could call a window pro to install storm windows, get in touch with a door installer to add storm doors, or just ask your hurricane tie installer what other projects they’d recommend you get done at the same time.
