"I have a stone chimney that was leaking The first time he attempted repair he used brick sealant and it continued to leak. When called back, he said "I was afraid of that." He then said he had used brick sealant and would need to use stone sealant, thus showing that he was cutting corners. After that the chimney quit leaking for a few months and then started leaking again. He will not honor his warranty and ignores my calls after the first contract to try to get the problem fixed. He told me that he would come by and look at the problem and then send his crew out"

I am a sole proprietor. I have been in business since 1988, I do all of the work myself except for roofing,. I have a roofing crew that I have worked with for ten years now. They are the highest quality in the state. I love my work. I know the details. I have been doing this for 30 yrs. now. If you want it done correctly the first time call me. You will not be disappointed. I don't need money up front. If the job takes longer than 2 weeks I may ask you for a draw. At this time I can offer Owens Corning Tru Def Designer color series shingles at the same price as the Owens Corning Tru Def shingles. They both carry a lifetime manufacturers warranty.

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

Issues include leaking seams, rusting panels, loose fasteners, and denting from debris or weather, which can cause damage that requires intervention.

Maintaining repaired areas involves regular cleaning, ensuring protective coatings are intact, and inspecting for signs of rust or wear that need to be addressed.

The green coloration that develops on copper roofs is called a “patina,” and it’s a result of mild oxidation on the surface. The oxidation process is not harmful to your roof. In fact, the surface corrosion acts as a protective layer and won’t spread to the core of your copper roof materials. The discoloration will progress much more quickly in damp or humid climates than it will in dry climates. If you don’t like the green color, you can seal your roof to preserve the shiny, rose-gold look.

Yes, you can walk on a standing seam roof, but you should avoid stepping on the seams and instead walk on the flat portions. The seams are thin and provide less traction, and they don’t get direct support from the roof decking underneath, so they’re more likely to dent from added weight.

Metal roofs do not technically require a drip edge if the roof overhangs at least one inch, because the roof's slant will cause water to flow away from the structure. But a drip edge would be an added level of protection for a metal roof to help keep moisture issues at bay.
