"Tony did a great job assessing the mold risk with a townhouse we were in the process of buying. He recommended testing 5 different areas, and we are glad he did. He found issues with not just the crawl space but also the living room above the crawl space. Tony also will be doing the remediation work for us. Tony knew that a comprehensive evaluation was important to us because of the health issue of two of our family members, and he responded accordingly."

"I was looking for a mold specialist to test for mold in my crawlspace after two incidents of leaks from frozen/burst pipes. After inquiring on Home Advisor, the Mold Specialist reached out immediately. The Mold Specialist first recommended a plumber that could fix my broken pipes for a very fair price. Once that was complete we scheduled a test that was completed quickly and efficiently. A small amount of mold was discovered. The mold specialist was very accommodating to my schedule and was able to work at a convenient time for me. They completed the job very quickly and efficiently at a fair price. Would highly recommend. Good business and pros."

"I hired him because he explained how he would remedy the problem and his method seemed the most logical. I interviewed 2 other companies. His also turned out to be the least expensive, by far. But that was not my main reason for hiring him. Also, he was the only one that guaranteed his work for 5 years."

"Everything went very well. During the initial inspection, Mr. Torres explained everything that would need to be done and the process of discovering all the contaminated areas and how they would be treated to eliminate the mold and preventing it from returning. A reasonable estimate of cost to perform the work was presented and accepted. Mr. Torres was very explicit as to what would be done and what would not be done. He was always very polite and true to his word. A time was scheduled to do the work which was accomplished very efficiently in one day. While the work was in progress, Mr. Torres kept us advised at each stage and invited us to inspect the work in progress. We are very pleased and intend to hire him again for follow up remedial work."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Yes. Over time, hidden moisture from a leak in your bathroom may lead to black mold, requiring a mold remediation company’s services and the removal of large wall sections, which can be costly. For example, 100 square feet of drywall can cost as much as $400 to replace, while mold remediation can run anywhere from $500 to $3,000.

The difference between mold and mildew is that mildew is a mild type of mold, whereas mold can be used to describe many different types of fungus. In general, mold is more dangerous than mildew. If you spot mold in your home, you will need a professional mold remediation specialist to help clean and remove it.

It is common for mold to grow around air vents, especially in areas with high humidity or moisture problems. These vents provide a perfect environment for mold to thrive due to the condensation caused by the meeting of warm and cool air. Mold growth can be accelerated by the presence of dust and debris around the vents. Regular maintenance, proper ventilation, and addressing any water leaks or excess humidity can prevent the growth of mold around air vents.

While water in your basement is unlikely to make you sick unless it’s coming from a sewage backup, mold is likely to start to grow in wet areas within 24 hours, and mold can make you sick. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), inhaling mold spores can cause allergy symptoms, including runny nose, itchy eyes, difficulty breathing, wheezing, and itchy skin. Individuals with pre-existing respiratory issues like asthma and immunocompromised individuals are at an elevated risk of symptoms when inhaling mold spores.

Both an air purifier and a dehumidifier can help prevent future mold growth, but neither can remove existing mold. An air purifier will improve air quality and trap mold spores in the air, whereas a dehumidifier will reduce moisture in the environment. Keep in mind that you need to make sure your air purifier uses HEPA filters, which are rated for mold removal.
