"Marc Anderson was incredibly helpful, walking me through the typical process and advising me that I may not need an architect for my specific renovation plans. However, if I do need an architect, he'll be happy to help and I feel assured that I'm dealing with a straight shooter."

"Dave was the BEST to work with. He didn’t hesitate to take a lot of time to help me understand the process of adding an addition to our home, and helped us put together plans that were exactly what we were looking for. I definitely recommend ALA to anyone looking for an architect. We can’t wait to move forward with our project! -Val and Stephen"

"Firmin is a pleasure to work with. He is professional, responsive, and he helped me immensely by creating a set of drawings for a condo renovation. He came over to my house, discussed the project with me and made me realize that my design needed some adjustments. I was very grateful for this because I think I would not have liked it otherwise. He created the drawings on schedule and delivered by the agreed upon deadline. I would hire Senga Architects again without thinking twice."

"I decided to go with Ramon and Ramon Landscaping to construct a boulder wall in my back yard. From the initial consult to the completion of the project, I was blown away by My. Hernandez and his team. They walked me through the timeline and pricing. I am still blown away by the end result and cannot wait to show it off. Highly recommend Ramon and Ramon Landscaping for anyone looking out there."

Architects questions, answered by experts

There are differences between universal design and ADA accommodations, but the outcomes are often similar. While universal design is a proactive process that takes a social justice approach to accessibility for all, ADA accommodations are focused specifically on accessibility for individuals living with disabilities. ADA accommodations often take the shape of wider doors and hallways, ramps, elevators, lower counters and sinks, and easy-to-grab door handles; universal design can include these plus emphasize better lighting, tractioned floors, and other building elements that allow all people to use buildings more comfortably.

Some architects include interior design in their portfolio of offerings, while some architectural firms employ interior designers to handle that aspect of home building projects or refer clients to interior designers they’ve worked with in the past. Ask a local architect whether they offer interior design services as well.

Yes, architects help navigate local zoning laws, acquire necessary permits, and ensure compliance with regulations, reducing delays and costly modifications.

The essential difference between an architect and an engineer is that architects typically focus more on the aesthetic design of buildings, although not without consideration for the structural integrity of the building. Engineers focus more on the structural, technical, and practical aspects of whether and how an architectural design can be built as drawn. You may need to hire both types of professionals if you’re designing and building a new home.

Depending on what the blueprints are for, a qualified draftsperson, contractor, or architect can draw them up. In some cases, including specialty permitting for a build, you may be required to use a licensed architect.

In many cases, a blueprint drawn up by a certified professional is required before a city or municipality approves a permit.
