"Marius was great to work with. He did a great job tiling four bathrooms, kitchen backsplash, mudroom tile, and fireplace surround. He made suggestions that made the tile appearance better even though added more work to his job. Overall project was performed on budget, within the time frame he provided, and looks a great. He worked with ceramic, porcelain, and marble in this job. We recommend Marius for any tiling work."

"We had an excellent experience with Avanti Stone for our backsplash installation in our kitchen and another in our bar. Tony and Sal did outstanding work from start to finish. They were professional, punctual, and clearly take a lot of pride in their craftsmanship. The installation was precise, clean, and beautifully done—the attention to detail really shows. Tony and Sal took the time to make sure everything was perfectly aligned. Communication throughout the process was easy and straightforward, and the end result exceeded our expectations. We couldn’t be happier with how the backsplash turned out and would absolutely recommend Avanti Stone, especially Tony and Sal, to anyone looking for high-quality stone work."

"I actually had a glass tile backsplash installed. Sal did the work and he was fabulous! Glass is more complicated than ceramic or porcelain and he did an exquisite job! Responded quickly and efficiently. Worked diligently and was friendly and professional. I absolutely love the result! I highly recommend this company for any kind of tile work!"

"Overall, 4Ever Remodeling did a very good job on our basement. We are happy with the finished product, which was completed on time and close to budget. Damian, Magda, and the rest of the team were generally professional and responsive. Throughout the project, we received timely status reports and updates. They began the project a few days earlier than originally estimated, and worked long days Monday-Saturday until the job was complete...there was very little downtime. I was impressed by the team's coordination and speed at which they worked. We had a few hiccups worth noting. Based on experiences with other projects, prior to signing an agreement, we emphasized that we did not want to be hit with surprise additional costs. I am not talking about unforeseeable unknowns that arise once walls are torn down or digging begins. We were simply asking for confirmation that all items to complete the project were either included in the bid or listed in the allowances. Despite this, after signing the agreement, we were asked to pay for the following "add ons": -a shower floor (to their credit, due to an installation issue with the PVC floor we purchased, 4Ever ended up installing a tile floor) -shower door (both the door and installation!?) -relocation of a ducts (not a hidden issue as everything in the basement was exposed) -leveling of floor (also not a hidden issue) -stairs railing (rebuilding of the stairs was part of the contract; after some back and forth, 4Ever agreed to cover the railing) These might have just been unintentional oversights, and ultimately the cost of these extras was only ~5% of the total, but I point them out because I do believe 4Ever is open to feedback. Avoiding requests for extras that should have been included in the quote/allowances (shower door, shower floor, stairs railing), or were easily foreseeable (floor leveling, duct relocation) is one thing they could have done better. All that said, we would recommend them and use them for future work. The things they did right outweighed the minor issues."

"Our tile floor is 25 years old and had several loose tiles and places with missing grout. Eric, one of the partners, performed the work. The work was performed as scheduled and in a reasonable time frame. Eric readily responded to any concerns. The floor and tub surround now look like new."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.

While tile is the best option in the bathtub, don’t forget to consider the flooring around the wash station. Moisture-holding carpet is a no-no, but is tile or vinyl better for dogs? Tile flooring is tough, moisture-resistant, cool, and scratch-proof. However, it’s more tricky to install and costs more than vinyl flooring. If you opt for vinyl, select tough luxury vinyl flooring; otherwise, canine claws could quickly damage the surface of standard, budget vinyl.

You cannot tile directly over hot mop waterproofing because tile requires a smooth, solid surface to adhere properly. Additionally, the shower bed pan needs to be raised and sloped toward the drain to prevent water from pooling. However, you can hot mop and apply a sloped mortar bed over the top (to which the tile can then be adhered).

The number of boxes of tile you need depends entirely on the amount of tile in each box or case. Different manufacturers package their tiles differently, and boxes contain different amounts of tile depending on the size, shape, and material. Often, the amount of area that a case will cover is listed in the product description. To calculate the number of boxes you need, take the total square feet of the space and divide it by the number of square feet the box will cover.

In some cases, granite tiles can be installed over existing flooring if the surface is level, stable, and free of moisture issues. However, removing old flooring is often recommended to ensure a secure and long-lasting installation, as well as to avoid height differences at thresholds. Consult with your flooring pro to determine the best approach based on your specific situation.
