"We had an excellent experience with Avanti Stone for our backsplash installation in our kitchen and another in our bar. Tony and Sal did outstanding work from start to finish. They were professional, punctual, and clearly take a lot of pride in their craftsmanship. The installation was precise, clean, and beautifully done—the attention to detail really shows. Tony and Sal took the time to make sure everything was perfectly aligned. Communication throughout the process was easy and straightforward, and the end result exceeded our expectations. We couldn’t be happier with how the backsplash turned out and would absolutely recommend Avanti Stone, especially Tony and Sal, to anyone looking for high-quality stone work."

"I actually had a glass tile backsplash installed. Sal did the work and he was fabulous! Glass is more complicated than ceramic or porcelain and he did an exquisite job! Responded quickly and efficiently. Worked diligently and was friendly and professional. I absolutely love the result! I highly recommend this company for any kind of tile work!"

"4Ever Remodeling designed and built our full gut kitchen remodel, and they did an amazing job. We wanted high quality, top of the line workmanship and materials since this was a once in a lifetime project for us, and 4Ever delivered. Their work is precise - we had some difficult tile work that was done immaculately, as well as custom cabinets that were installed with an eye for detail, which is exactly what we wanted. The prices were not bargain, but that’s not what we were looking for - we wanted a firm that could provide the expertise for high end work, and 4Ever delivered. Magda in the design studio was an especial joy to work with - she understood my somewhat unique vision and made it come to life with excellent improvements and suggestions that only a professional with a great eye could have come up with. They handled the permitting with the city of Chicago, which is a pain in the butt, and our project coordinator was responsive and available when we needed him. The project took a long time, but that wasn’t 4Ever’s fault - it was the city of Chicago’s! We would definitely use 4Ever for major contracting project that required design help - we couldn’t have done it without them!"

"We knew when Nick first walked in our home that we had chosen wisely. He was professional, friendly and full of ideas. He and Joel did a beautiful and flawless job installing custom wainscoting. We were so impressed with their attention to detail and craftsmanship. They were very friendly, on time each day and trustworthy. They cleaned up before they left for lunch and at the end of the day. Biango construction was the best choice we made and I will be hiring them again."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

Bathrooms are naturally moisture-rich environments, so choose a durable, water-resistant tile for your tub surround. Porcelain and ceramic are two popular options that are also quite affordable. Glass is another good option that’s also low-maintenance—you just need a glass cleaner like you would use on the bathroom mirror. Natural stone tile is porous, but it’s still a viable option if you choose it in a glazed version.

Yes, you can tile a shower as a DIY project, and you can save hundreds of dollars in labor costs by doing so. However, you’ll need to rent or buy quite a few tools and supplies for the job, including a saw, tile nippers, and a new shower pan. In terms of the work itself, you should be prepared to tackle a variety of different tasks, including measuring and ordering materials, removing old tile, waterproofing the wall, adding rows of tile, grouting, and more.

Yes, unfortunately, it is normal for wall and floor tiles to crack, especially when you drop heavy items on tiled floors or place heavy objects on them. Tiles are also more susceptible to cracking when ceramic tiles designed for walls are installed on floors, as these are often not strong enough to handle heavy loads from foot traffic and furniture. Similarly, tiles that are installed incorrectly, lack adequate subflooring, or have other installation problems are prone to cracking. To avoid these problems and the inevitable repair and replacement costs they bring, always hire a professional for tile work and follow best practices for installation.

Regardless of the material, basic square tiles will never go out of style. Neutral colors like white, grey, beige, and black will always be in demand in residential and commercial settings. Certain designs, like herringbone and hexagonal patterns, are considered timeless. Porcelain and porcelain-like tiles will also never go out of style.
