"We needed a roof replacement and were looking for a company we could trust. Berg Roofing did a great job on our roof from start to finish They delivered exactly what was promised at the price quoted, with no high-pressure sales tactics. We also appreciated that they provided a list of local homes with the shingle colors we were considering, which made the decision much easier. Working with Nick made the process simple and stress-free. He was responsive, kept us informed about scheduling, and clearly explained our options and pricing. On installation day, the crew arrived right on time, worked efficiently, and left the property spotless when they were done. Their workmanship was impressive. We?re extremely happy with the results and would confidently recommend Berg Roofing to anyone seeking reliable, high-quality service."

"Both the owner of Guardian Roofing Systems, LLC, Angelo Ristich and his Lead Repairman Hector were professional and very knowledgeable about the task at hand and what needed to be done. They answered my questions and made sure I had full understanding of the whys of the roof replacement. I was quoted a fair price. The job was completed in a timely manner and true to their word, when the next heavy rain high windstorm happened the new roof held up beautifully. The leaks my house was plagued with aren't a problem anymore. For quality service at a fair price I definitely recommend them."

Customers say: Quick response

"I had storm damage on my roof that had caused my ceiling to collapse in places. After reviewing different companies I chose three and filled out online submissions for quotes. Within an hour Tom had contacted me and gathered all the general information. The other two companies never responded at all. The next day Wes showed up and inspected our roof and ceilings. He took photographs and covered everything with me. The next day Tom sent me some of the photos saying it looked like a great opportunity for homeowners insurance to cover some of the damage. I had not even considered that. Tom walked me through the insurance claim and also dealing with the insurance company which was not always easy. In the end insurance covered practically everything. The work was flawless by the crews who worked on my house. New roof, new vinyl siding with fascia and trim. New gutters. My house completely transformed. Bob the Builder is Amazing!"

"They did a very nice job and made sure to haul away debris and clean up after the job. Their responsiveness was a little slow for scheduling but they were much better in this regard than any of the other roofing contractors I called."

"WOW , is all we can say . Casey the representative came out and assessed the work needed to be done . Second City is great because they are honest , reasonably priced , on time and they are not in the business of doing unnecessary work just to make more money . They finance which was a concern for us , so that worked out as well . We were quite impressed by the on time up to the minute arrival of not only Casey but the roofing crew , tuck pointing crew and facia and soffit crew . Everyone was extremely punctual . We were happy about that because we have a very tight schedule . Casey explained to us in terms we could understand what need to be done . We got a $300.00 discount for using the flyer that was placed on our door . We originally intended get the roof done ( only ) , but after the roof was on completed in 2 1/2 days and the work was solid and professional , it looked Awesome !!!! , I know this because the roofer got on the roof with my iPhone and took pictures so that we could see . It was at that point that we knew we could count on Second City to do work on our home . That is when we added the tuck pointing and facia and soffit repair , these guys do a GREAT JOB !!!! . We are so happy about the work . The work was so beautiful on the that our mail woman had her mom call to get Second City to do her roof . Our neighbors are also impressed . Casey came out to make sure we were satisfied and had any issues rectified A.S.A.P. . We have more work that needs to be done in the near future like , new windows , patio , garage repair and for all of it we will be calling Second City . Oh , I forgot to mention for doing business with Second City we got a beautiful set of porcelain coffee mugs , the customer service rep. Mike Murphy hand delivered them to our home , what a great way to show appreciation . The solid roof was one thing but getting great work and great customer It's wonderful to find contractors you can trust ."

"I am very happy with the new roof. Daryl, the sales rep, communicated everything very nicely and made sure that I was given the best option for my roof. Mike, Devan, and Walter were the project managers and they were very helpful throughout the roof install. I wasnâ t able to communicate very well with the roofing crew but the project managers made sure that all of my concerns were taken care of."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

To cap off a chimney flue, start by measuring its width, length, and diameter, if it’s circular. Purchase a cap that fits the flue, and decide whether you want a temporary or permanent model. Then, slide or insert the cap onto the flue and secure it with a screwdriver. Be sure to avoid over-tightening the screws to prevent chimney damage.

No, ice dams aren’t a standalone sign that you need a new roof. Ice dams can form on new roofs, as issues with the insulation inside your home are often the underlying problem. However, if you notice signs of roof damage from ice dams, you might need to hire a local roofer for repair or partial replacement.

You should plan on waiting as long as it takes for the roof deck to dry out completely if it gets wet. In most cases, this will take about 24 hours, but it could take longer if you have shading on your roof or cloudy weather after the rainfall that prevents the sun from drying the material.

A roof's ability to handle snow depends on its strength and the snow's weight, as wet snow is much heavier than dry, fluffy snow. While designs in snowy regions often allow for 35 to 50 pounds per square foot, a general guideline is that a typical roof can withstand about four feet of fresh snow, two feet of packed snow, or just one inch of ice. Factors like the roof's age, slope, and support structure also affect its capacity; newer, sloped roofs generally hold more weight than older, flat ones. Ice and ice dams add significant, dangerous weight. Because capacity varies, it is best to contact a professional roofing contractor or the original builder to determine the maximum snow load for your specific home.

A roof pitch that’s too shallow won’t shed runoff as quickly, so you have an increased risk of water intrusion through the seams between your roofing materials. In colder climates, snow and ice will accumulate more easily on your roof, which can add enough weight to cause roof collapse and structural damage to your home.
