"We were very pleased with this company. Bob came out measured and showed us 3 grades of carpet and padding that he would recommend for us based on the amount of traffic in the room. At no time did he try to push the more expensive options and actually said that the middle grade of both would definitely work for our situation. He also helped decide which color would work best in our room. A week and a half later, our room was finished and we are so pleased with the results. The installers (who were wonderfu!) took up the old carpeting and padding, removed it from our property, and also moved the heavier pieces of furniture. I highly recommend this company to anyone needing new carpeting!"

"My initial experience was positive. The salesperson was very helpful and I chose carpeting that was reasonable for my budget. The installers were punctual and courteous. However, the price in the store for my carpeting was incorrect, and when it came time to pay, the salesperson was pretty rude when I demanded the price that was on the sample in the store. He even refused to let me talk to his boss. After speaking with another salesperson, I was given the price that was in the store and a credit for the extra labor for stairs, which was nice. I'm not totally pleased with the installation. There are air pockets and bumps all over the place, and when I went back to the store, I was told to try sticking pins in the air pockets and if that didn't work, they would come pull up the carpet. I just don't feel like dealing with them anymore, so I'll probably just accept all the imperfections because I don't want to turn my basement upside down to fix them.

"Mitchell came in and inspected my floor. He told me exactly what job they where going to on my floor. He explained everything thoroughly to me. He was also very helpful in helping me pick a color. He was very professional and very personable. I felt comfortable going ahead with the project."

"John and crew did an awesome job on our 90-year-old basement floor finishing it in a metallic epoxy finish. The job was finished promptly in consecutive days. John is very responsive to questions/issues, which, in my view, sets his business apart from most others. Pricing was reasonable. I would highly recommend!"

"From the start meeting with the owner(Walter) for measurements of our two bedroom condo to remove all the carpeting and replace with laminate wood flooring; it was a pleasure to work with.. We were impressed the way the installers handled all the movement of furnitures in and out of each area of work to be done. Great job guys! Also having scheduling conversations with Jenny in the office was a pleasure - thanks! Definitely would recommend Horowitz Flooring for those flooring projects. They strive to to take your worries away."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Many services include the removal and disposal of old carpet. Confirm with your provider.

In most cases, you do not need to put padding or underlayment under carpet tiles. Unlike traditional carpet, which requires a separate pad, carpet tiles are designed to be installed directly onto a firm subfloor like plywood, concrete, or tile. Many carpet tiles come with a built-in underlay and attach with peel-and-stick adhesive, double-sided carpet tape, or glue. For a more comfortable, cushioned feel, especially in residential settings, you can opt for padded carpet tiles that have a thicker underlay attached. While it's generally not recommended to install a separate pad, a compact underlayment might be used in some situations, though this typically requires professional installation. An acoustic underlay may also be considered in commercial spaces or multi-level homes where noise reduction is a priority.

Transition strips are often called seam binders as they bridge the gap between two floor types. They are common between carpeting and hardwood or wood and tile. Transition strips prevent trips and falls and make the transition from each room appear seamless. They are also often used to even out height differences between floors.

Houses naturally settle over time, but they should settle uniformly with no apparent settling in one spot. If your floor is uneven but only in a particular area of your home, differential settlement could be the problem. This can be caused by improper drainage, erosion, expanding soil, earthquake activity, or poor construction techniques.

If you have a concrete subfloor, you must secure the carpet padding with adhesive or glue. However, if you have a wooden subfloor, use staples instead. Removing a glued-down carpet can be difficult and time-consuming, so it’s best to avoid glue when possible.
