"Toilet was leaking from tank bolt. Plumber Chris tightened and also checked the other two toilet tank bolts, and while he was at it also corrected the water level in the tanks which was great and I'm glad he did that to avoid future toilet issues. Would hire again!"

"I can?t say enough good things about this company. My sewer line was completely clogged, and it was starting to back up into the house ? stressful doesn?t even begin to cover it. I called them and they got someone out quickly. The plumber showed up right on time, was super friendly, and explained everything in a way I could actually understand. He worked fast, cleared the clog, and even double-checked the line to make sure it wouldn?t happen again anytime soon. What really stood out was how respectful he was of my home ? no mess left behind. The price was fair, and honestly, the peace of mind was worth every penny. If you?re dealing with a nasty sewer backup, these are the people you want to call"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

You should choose the type of toilet that meets your budget, fits properly in your space, and matches the rest of your decor. If you’ve never gone toilet shopping before, you might be surprised at how many options are available. Most homeowners choose a two-piece toilet, which is the industry standard, and a gravity flush system is the most common. However, dual-flush and low-flush toilets are becoming more prevalent as more people become conscious of water consumption.

Most codes require 15 inches on either side of the toilet's centerline (from the wall or vanity) and at least 21 to 24 inches between the toilet and the wall in front of it. These codes ensure that your toilet is easy to use and access, even in small bathrooms. Check your local building codes for the exact measurements required.

Yes, and no. Your shower, toilet, and sink all connect to the same main drain, but the secondary drains going from each fixture to the main drain are usually separate. This isn’t always the case—especially in older homes—but since toilets contain black water and showers, tubs, and sinks have grey water, toilets are more regulated and come at a greater risk of contamination. It’s best to keep these drains separate using individual waste collection for this reason.

You generally cannot replace a 10-inch rough-in toilet with a 12-inch model without making significant plumbing updates. A 12-inch rough-in toilet will not fit a 10-inch rough-in space because the floor drain is in the wrong position. To accommodate the larger toilet, you would need to move the drainpipe, which could cost between $0.75 and $30 per linear foot, plus labor. In most cases, it is more cost-effective and simpler to purchase a new 10-inch rough-in toilet. However, it is possible to install a 10-inch rough-in toilet in a 12-inch space by using a longer connector.

To drain a broken toilet, place towels or plastic sheeting around the base in case of splashing or overflowing. Next, shut off the toilet’s water supply, usually via a valve on the wall behind the toilet. Begin flushing the handle to remove as much water as possible from the tank and the bowl. Don’t flush the toilet if it’s clogged, though. From there, use a large sponge to soak up any remaining water and wring it over a bucket.
