"We take our reputation on Angie's List very seriously. This review is the FIRST that we have heard that this customer was unhappy. In fact, Mr. [Member Name Removed] seemed very happy with the floors when we were finished and paid in full right away. At no time did he show or tell anyone that he was unhappy. When I went out to do the estimate at the [Member Name Removed] residence, [Member Name Removed] only wanted to sand, stain and finish the kitchen/eating area and not the adjoining rooms. I clearly explained to him that the other floors in the adjoining rooms had "ambered" and faded over the years. Plus, with a fresh resand in the kitchen/eating area it would be difficult to get an exact stain match to these adjoining older wood floors. I explained that we could get close; however, they would not match. There are many different manufactures of stains and each manufacturer makes many different stain colors. I have no idea what stain was used when they did his floor many years ago, or even if there was a custom mixed stain that was used. He was emphatic about not wanting to spend the money to do the other floors; and that if I could get the stain color close that it would be fine. As for the sheen, I also explained to Mr. [Member Name Removed] that finish sheens from the same manufacturer do vary from even batch to batch. Also if a finish coat dries faster or slower, that will also affect the sheen. It is risky to only refinish the wood floor in the middle of older wood floors and expect it to completely match many years later. I clearly explained to him that there is a good chance that the floor sheen would not match. He again stated that he would be "OK" with the sheen variance. We sent him a proposal and he agreed for us to do the project. We sanded the floor that he requested and then put down multiple stain color samples onto the freshly sanded floor for him to choose a stain color. This way he could see the stain color on the floor inside the home with the correct light to see how it matched the other surrounding older wood floors. Mr. [Member Name Removed] selected and approved the stain color which we used on his floor. We also explained to him that over time this floor will "amber" and more closely match the other existing floors. Again, he was happy with the stain color. We applied the finish coats and never heard that he was unhappy with the sheen. We also went back to the [Member Name Removed] residence and moved the refrigerator back as well as the kitchen table once the floor finish had dried. Still, he never said anything about being unhappy with the color or finish sheen. If at any point, he let us know that he was unhappy, then we could have dealt with his concerns. Since Mr. [Member Name Removed] never let us know he was unhappy, it seems the reason for this bad review may simply be because he is unhappy with his own decisions. If a different wood floor company actually refinished his floor in the past without any problems, then I am not sure as to why he would choose a different company that did not agree with his requested method."
