"Blazer Electric was excellent. They installed a new outlet in my kitchen with causing minimal mess since this was a brand new outlet so I could install an oven range hood. They used all the PPE precautions and were pretty thorough and polite. I will definitely have them do my future electrical work when needed."

"Joe was a great help with our electrical projects. We had several smaller projects that we needed done in our new house. He recommended some ways to simplify our projects, quoted a reasonable cost, and performed great work. He even did a great job cleaning up after finishing. I would highly recommend him for your project!"

Small jobs welcome

"My husband and I had a laundry list of electrical services we wanted and as first-time homeowners we were very overwhelmed. Mike was efficient, knowledgable, and did the work at a reasonable price. He added multiple outlets to our basement AND removed an ugly chandelier from our living room, replacing it with two can lights. He completed both jobs beautifully and identified opportunities to eliminate extra hassle and cost for us. I'm certain that a different electrician would have talked us into additional steps we couldn't afford. Highly recommend and I will definitely be back!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Aluminum wiring can pose a fire risk as it can overheat, expand, and contract, leading to failing splices and loose connections. If your home has aluminum wiring, it requires careful maintenance and potential safety upgrades. The first step is to hire a licensed electrician to conduct a thorough inspection.

A complete replacement with copper wire is the safest option but can be very expensive and is not always necessary. Other safety measures and upgrades include:

  • Copper Pigtailing: A more budget-friendly option where a short section of copper wire is added to each end of the aluminum wire. This is only appropriate for certain homes.

  • Aluminum-Compatible Outlets: Installing outlets specifically designed for use with aluminum wiring.

  • Anti-Oxidant Paste: Applying this paste to connections to prevent oxidation.

Consulting with a qualified electrician is essential to assess the condition of your wiring and determine the most appropriate updates to meet current safety standards.

Yes, the National Electric Code (NEC) requires at least one GFCI outlet in each sectioned-off portion of an unfinished basement, partly to ensure a power source is available for a sump pump in case of flooding. If you install multiple outlets in your unfinished basement, all of them must be GFCI-protected. For finished basements, standard outlets are generally permitted, but at least one GFCI outlet is still required per circuit. Keep in mind that local municipalities may have additional codes, so it's best to consult a licensed electrician to ensure your home is fully compliant.

The NEC prohibits the installation of electrical panels within clothing closets. Closets are filled with flammable items like clothing, mothballs, shoe polish, plastic containers, and exposed light bulbs. If the panel develops a small electrical fire, it won’t take long to bloom into a real disaster. If you have an electrical panel in one of your home’s closets, move it as soon as possible with the help of a professional electrician.

You can use both LED and incandescent bulbs in an incandescent fixture as long as the bulb base is the right size. Never use a higher wattage than what the fixture recommends. However, it’s usually safe when transitioning to LED bulbs because they typically have a lower wattage than their incandescent counterparts.

The life expectancy of a home electrical panel is typically around 25 to 40 years. However, this can vary based on usage, maintenance, and technological advancements. Regular inspections by a qualified electrician can help determine the condition and potential need for replacement as your panel ages. Factors like overloading, outdated components, or wear and tear might prompt earlier replacements for safety and efficiency reasons.
