"PERFECT / KNOWLEDGEABLE / EFFICIENT / HONEST would be the words I would use to describe LSVG Electrics. I had a circuit in the kitchen that was not getting any power even though the breaker in the main panel wasn't tripped so randomly picked LSVG Electrics for their assistance. Lou came out exactly at the time he said he would and quickly diagnosed the problem to be a burnt wire in a J-box in the basement and repaired it. If you are looking for an electrician that you can have confidence in ... please call LSVG Electrics ... because they know their stuff. I've only called electricians on a handful of occasions but LSVG electrics certainly was the BEST!!! and will use them for any other electrical issues I might encounter ... Highly Recommended ... 5 of 5 stars Regards, Keith K Algonquin IL"

"I'm very satisfied with his work. I had used him for 16 years and I had him install two different generators. I never had any problems at all and he is very responsive; that is why I have recommended him before."

"Your IT Guy did an excellent job! Chuck and Eric were professional, friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and effective. We hired them to install several new circuits, outlets, and receptacles. They do so much more than IT! Hire them, you won’t regret it!!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Natural gas generators are designed to run for extended periods of time, such as power outages during a natural disaster. Since there’s no limit to the supply of natural gas, they don’t need to stop for refills. However, generators do need maintenance, including pauses to check and add oil. Constantly running them will also cause a lot more wear and tear, leading to a shorter lifespan.

You can expect a diesel generator to last for up to 30,000 hours of use, which works out to 20 to 25 years with the proper maintenance, of course. That depends on how much you use it, so a diesel generator used for emergencies a couple of times a year will last a lot longer than a generator that takes over for a faulty electrical grid every month for a day or two.

If you have a transfer switch properly installed, the generator and main electrical power cannot feed the system at the same time. However, you should still shut off the power at your main circuit breaker panel before activating the generator. If you do that, you’ll simply need to shut off the generator and reset your circuit breaker once the local power comes back on.

Generators are safe to use as long as they are installed and operated correctly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The most critical safety tips are to never use a portable or fuel-powered generator inside an enclosed space due to the risk of lethal carbon monoxide poisoning; always operate it outdoors where fumes can dissipate away from your home. Additionally, never attempt to connect a generator to your home’s electrical panel yourself—hire a professional to ensure the setup meets safety standards. Finally, avoid overloading the generator by not connecting more appliances than it is rated for, as this can damage your equipment or cause a fire.

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.
