"I would not recommend this company because of lack of professionalism. They installed an ejector pump in March. I requested a specific brand of pump, and he claimed that he was not able to find it. After three months, I called because the ejector pump was running non stop. I called before 12 noon and he said he would arrive before 3. At 3 I called several times. He text me saying he “could not rush and he almost got into a car accident”. I replied asking when I should expect him. I waited until 10 pm and never got a response or phone call back. I hired another plumbing company to resolve the issue."

"This is the third time we've used Preferred Professional Plumbing in the last couple months. First, Grant and his assistant came out to replace our hose bib, the part that provides water to an outside spigot. While they were on that visit, I mentioned we'd need to buy a new kitchen faucet. He took a look and suggested we call Moen and ask for a warranty replacement. That saved us from buying a $300 faucet. He came out the following week and installed the new faucet. Both of those visits were great. Then last Friday, our 75-gallon water heater died. I called Grant, and he said he'd be able to get out the next day to replace it with either a new tank, or a tankless model. We opted for the tankless one for unlimited hot water. He again showed up on time and got us hot water with some temporary connections... you never realize how much you miss hot water until you don't have it. He came back twice more to run all the permanent water, gas, and air lines. He's a real artist with piping. I'll attach some pictures so you can see how neat and tidy the installation is. I heartily endorse Grant and Preferred Professional Plumbing if you want a job done right!"

16 years of experience

AMC Septic Design & Testing Services operates on the basis of providing the intimate customer care of a private-practice firm with the expertise and resources of a large corporate firm. You may chose from a complete range of services to obtain your septic system installation or building permit for residential and commercial construction. We can also assist you with the necessary services for building additions, or for the repair or replacement of aging septic systems. Our services include Septic System Design, Percolation Testing ("perc test"), Site Plans, Infiltration Testing, and Permit Application Assistance. All of these services are provided in seamless coordination in order to ensure your project will proceed as efficiently and as quickly as possible. Over the years we have been able to assist our clients in obtaining septic system approvals and building permits for a number of challenging projects while working to protect the public health and preserving our local environmental resources. Our wide-ranging service area encompasses Cook, Lake, Kane, McHenry, DuPage, Will, DeKalb, LaSalle, Ogle, Winnebago and Kendall Counties in Illinois as well as southeast Wisconsin, northern Indiana, and Berrien County Michigan. AMC Septic Design & Testing Services keeps abreast of the latest technologies for on-site waste water treatment in order to have the widest possible range of engineering options available for differing or challenging projects. This becomes especially important for small or challenged lots where having choices of various products and design alternatives becomes critical. Additionally, the demand for Infiltration Testing to determine water percolation rates is on the rise throughout the city of Chicago and surrounding municipalities. This testing, using the double-ring infiltrometer method, provides engineers with the critical data necessary for the sizing of detention ponds as well as for the implementation of "Best Management Practices" now required by many municipalities. Should you need supplemental engineering services, we are happy to work with the Professional Engineer or Land Surveyor of your choice. Alternately, for your convenience, our associated engineers and surveyors can provide you with the Land Surveying or Civil Engineering services you may need. Give us a call today to learn more about how we can assist with the success of your project! Consultations are always free.

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Certain foods are easier on your septic tank than others. Septic-safe foods include yogurt, fruit, cooked veggies, and bread because these items all break down relatively easily and can pass through your system safely. Rotten tomatoes, specifically, are actually good for your septic tank because they can increase the amount of good bacteria in the system.

The precharged pressure tank should start at around 28 psi. The two pressure settings of note are the cut-in and cut-out pressure. The well pump starts when the tank reaches the minimum cut-in pressure. It turns off when the tank reaches the maximum cut-out pressure. The desired water pressure in the household is usually a few psi above the cut-in number. The difference between the cut-in and cut-out pressure settings should be 20 psi. Typical settings for household applications include 20/40, 30/50, and 40/60.

Wells should be at least 100 feet deep for drinking water, but they may need to be deeper depending on the local geology, water quality, and your household’s water usage. Work with a qualified well drilling professional who can assess the appropriate depth for your well and test the water before drinking it.

A household of four can easily fill a 1,000-gallon septic tank within a week. It may be 10 to 14 days for smaller households. But the reason why you don't need weekly pumping is because the tank's contents eventually reach the overflow pipe. They flow down this pipe to the absorption area whenever water is used in your home. The tank keeps working at this full level until it's pumped again.

Never use Drano on blocked toilets. You can end up with a ghastly leak because the chemicals eat away at the glue that holds pipes together just as effectively as they do with clogs. Drano is known for being particularly rough on toilets, which is why some plumbers actually dislike the product.
