"I paid them to clean my catch basin, however, was not able to clean the whole thing because of pipes on the way. I still ended up paying for the whole price. With the sewer going to the road, they could not go further because of an existing backup sewer door. I had to pay extra for them to rod from the backup sewer door to the road."

"We just bought a house on a private well and started noticing rust stains and a foul odor right away. The house came with an old softener, but it didn't seem to be working anymore. We got a few quotes for a system that would treat well water and decided to use Chicago Water Pros. Their tech was on time, very professional and knowledgeable. The price was very reasonable compared to the other quotes that we got, and they had a way better warranty and money back guarantee than anyone else by far. We bought a tank for iron treatment and a softener. The guy that came out to test our water and do the quote was there for the installation and came back out to re-test the water and make sure everything was working properly a few days after the install as well. We couldn't be happier with the water and the great service and price that we got. I'd recommend them to anyone!"

"The awesomeness started within a couple hours of purchasing my deal. Matt reached out to clarify a misprint in the deal, and assure I still wanted to go through with the deal. He was able to to schedule me at a time that worked with my busy schedule.
Darryl and Mike arrived right on time, first thing in the morning. I had originally purchased a hot water tank replacement deal. During the old tank removal, it was discovered that my ejector pump was not working. The crew was equipped to replace that at a reasonable price as well. They worked quick and professionally and had all the work completed in a timely manner. They made sure to have tarps available to protect my floors when moving the tanks in and out. The crew had such pleasant personalities, and I could tell they enjoyed what they were doing.
I highly recommend M&E Plumbing for any work you may need!!

"I walked into my basement on Saturday afternoon to discover a pool of water on the floor.  Looking at the walls I traced it back to right above the window that sits below my kitchen sink.  I popped the paneling off the top of the window box and immediately saw that the galvanized pipe leading from the sink drain to the stack had corroded and a hole had formed.  Frantic because it was 4pm on a Saturday and I knew I couldn't use my kitchen sink or dishwasher until I got this fixed (no easy task with two toddlers to keep up with), I jumped onto Angie's List looking for a plumber with Saturday hours and a good rating.
I called McDonagh and was told they could have someone at my place in an hour.  Todd showed up at 5:30 and immediately got to work.  Patrick (the owner) showed up with his son Nolan shortly thereafter to take a look and get Todd some parts off of his truck.  We gave Nolan a piece of the pizza my kids were having for dinner as an apology for interrupting his Saturday too.  Patrick came back with a price estimate that seemed fair to me for emergency short-notice service on a Saturday night.  Todd replaced the entire section of pipe from the sink drain to the stack and was finished and out the door by 7:30, leaving us with a fully functional kitchen again.
Huge thanks to Patrick and Todd (and Nolan) who really saved the day for us.  These guys are absolute professionals and really saved us from some major inconvenience.  Would absolutely recommend and use them again.

"Unfortunately a rat made its way into our sewer line, which backed up every thing into our house. The technician showed up right on time (within three hours of my call, on a Sunday) and was extremely professional. The price was a bit high but I had no other options and the service was great.

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

A household of four can easily fill a 1,000-gallon septic tank within a week. It may be 10 to 14 days for smaller households. But the reason why you don't need weekly pumping is because the tank's contents eventually reach the overflow pipe. They flow down this pipe to the absorption area whenever water is used in your home. The tank keeps working at this full level until it's pumped again.

There are three layers of wastewater in a septic tank: scum (solid waste that floats to the top of the wastewater), liquid (the relatively clean liquid wastewater in between the two other layers), and sludge (solid waste that falls to the bottom of the wastewater). The buildup of sludge is one of the main reasons septic tanks need to be pumped. If the tank is more than 1/3 of the way full with a combination of sludge and scum, it’s time to call a pro for pumping.

There are a couple of ways you can determine the depth of your well. One method is to use a device called a well sounder. This tool has a long measuring tape containing a sensor to alert you once the end reaches the water.

Or you can DIY it by using a long tape measure with a half-filled bottle of water attached to it. Lower the tape measure into your well. Once you feel tension on the tape, you’ll know the bottle has reached your static water level. This will give you an approximate idea of your well’s depth.

How do you set your well’s pressure tank? All you need to do is first drain the tank of water and find the pressure switch. Remove the switch cover and adjust the switch with a wrench—clockwise to increase water pressure, and counter-clockwise to reduce it. Each complete turn of the nut on the switch should equal 2.5 psi. Once this is done, replace the switch cover. All that’s left is to adjust the pressure of the tank itself using an air compressor and a tire gauge to support the new setting.

There are many reasons you may want to extend the depth of an existing well or drill a new, deeper well on your property. A deeper well can tap cleaner water sources—shallow water may contain more contaminants. With a deeper well, you’ll also have an easier time reaching the water table depth (the level at which underground water is found) and can get past tricky soil conditions.

Plus, if your local building code requires a minimum well depth for safety and environmental standards, you’ll meet the code by digging a deeper well in the first place.
