"Corbin came out to inspect our fireplace. He was very knowledgeable and gave us the best options in order to have our fireplace to code. He and his team did an amazing job to ensure everything was safe and usable. He also took the time to explain the issues that we had and how to resolve them in the best way. Would highly recommend Corbin and Superior Chimney."

"Manuel completely rebuilt the inside of our fireplace that included installing a new cast iron burner/starter, all new wall panels, and tearing out and putting in fresh new concrete for the "floor" He also cleaned our chimney. I had 3 different fireplace repair company's come to my home and I immediately liked Manuel, partially choosing him for this reason and the fact that he many 5 star reviews. That sealed the deal. "I had 2 gas fireplaces that needed cleaned and/or repaired. One was cleaned and began working again. I was given an overpriced solution for the second fireplace that I rejected. I will find another company for the second fireplace."

Fireplace Cleaners questions, answered by experts

To stain brick, you should use a product specifically formulated for brick, concrete, or other masonry surfaces. These stains are designed to penetrate the porous surface of the brick and bond with it. This is different from paint, which sits on the surface and is prone to peeling, flaking, and trapping moisture that can cause damage. Water-based brick stains are often recommended because they are easy to apply, even for DIYers, and they allow the brick to breathe. Avoid using regular paint on brick, as it will not adhere properly and can lead to future maintenance problems.

With a little ingenuity, an old fireplace insert can be transformed into a decorative centerpiece that infuses new life into any room. Consider placing LED lights or candles inside to create a captivating display that simulates the warm glow of a fire. Another option is to repurpose the insert as a charming bookshelf by adding rustic shelves within the firebox. For plant lovers, converting the fireplace insert into an indoor garden is a perfect way to bring nature indoors. You can also transform it into a stylish wine rack.

Limewash and whitewash do not harm surfaces if you apply them correctly. Use on non-suitable surfaces can cause issues. For instance, applying limewash or whitewash to surfaces with existing sealants or incompatible materials may lead to poor adhesion or flaking. Also, harsh cleaning agents on limewashed or whitewashed surfaces can damage the finish. Proper preparation, application, and maintenance ensure that limewash and whitewash do not harm surfaces.

When comparing which is better between German schmear, whitewash, and limewash, your answer will depend on the look you're going for. German schmear is the best option for those who want a heavily distressed look for their brick without full coverage. Whitewash is best if you like the current brick color and want it to show through. Limewash paint is best for full coverage.

The downsides of brick staining include a complex process and lengthy application. Also, if your brick is damaged or already contains a non-porous sealant or paint, staining won’t be an option as it won’t be able to absorb properly.
