"We had a wonderful experience working with Anthony at A-1 Safety Chimney Service, Inc. Anthony came out to do an initial inspection and was extremely thorough. He spent time explaining the issues to my husband and I, showing us photos he'd taken and answering all of our questions. When Anthony came out to do the repair work, he was efficient and once again took time to discuss the work he had done with us in detail. We were able to build a fire in the fireplace that same night! I would highly recommend Anthony and A-1 to anyone in need of chimney repairs."

"had been having issues with birds getting into the basement of my building. I wasn't sure how they were getting in but knew they would find themselves stuck in either the chimney cleanup or flue to my boiler and/or water heater. I had a wildlife company come out initially and he recommended I have my chimney inspected as he thought that would be the likely source of entry. I did a Google search and came across Chimney USA. I spoke with Mirna and explained my situation and she knew exactly what I was talking about. This woman is incredible. She was so thorough in explaining how and why situations like mine happens as well as knowledgeable about how the chimney system works, the components and what part they play, how to diagnose the issue, options for repair, and so forth. I mean she really knows her stuff! Needless to say, I set up an appointment to have chimney unblockage, cleaning and inspection done and she and her team did a wonderful job. They were very professional and arrived within the window of time given (9a-12). I was surprised because I wasn't expecting her to come but I'm glad she did. They worked with attentiveness, safety, and care as they wanted me the customer to have a knowledge and understanding of what was going on as they moved through the process. I was even able to go on the roof while they inspected the chimney cap which resulted in them adding a protective layer of mesh around the existing cap. The cap appeared to be the source of the problem. Anyhow we explored other options for chimney caps as well as added a cap to another opening that appeared to be an old chimney I didn't even know existed. And just to be clear, it was my idea to add the other cap and not a sales pitch to try and make more money. I wanted to make sure I was taking all precautions to avoid anything else getting into my building. Anyhow, all in all Chimney USA is a great company. I would highly recommend them if you are in need of any work related to the chimney, roof, issues with animals getting into your home, and so forth. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I felt they were a little pricey but otherwise good company, good people."

"Our beautiful new (to us) home has a gorgeous chimney that had gone unused and without maintenance for about 23 years. We wanted to ensure it was both safe to use and ready to withstand autumn, winter, and festive holiday fires for years to come. After a thorough inspection we got a lot of good news. Our chimney is well built, the stone is holding up great, and it absolutely could last us a lifetime. Then we got the not as fun news…we had about 23 years worth of maintenance to catch up on. Thankfully all of it was well within our budget, thoroughly explained, detailed without being overwhelming, and he even did a deep dive all over the house just to be extra sure there wasn’t anything missing that would require another visit. (He even fixed some loose stone in an unrelated part of the house for free.) Already looking forward to my first fire in my new home. I’ll be calling Top Hat for our annual maintenance as long as we own our home."

"Mario did a detailed inspection and quote. I had three companies bid out the job and he was the only one concerned with the condition of my chimney liner. Turns out the chimney liner was full of holes, potentially a safety issue. If I had hired the other companies that would not have been addressed. Quality of the work was great, always showed up on time and left the job site clean. Main office staff was friendly and easy to get ahold of. If there were any changes they always communicated it ahead of time. The new grout blended in perfectly, chimneys look much better. I also appreciated they offered crown coat, my crowns were in bad shape and look much nicer after using crown coat. They even fixed up some stuff on my brick lamp post."

A properly installed, high-quality tarp can be left on a roof for up to 90 days. However, this is only a temporary measure and not a substitute for proper roof repair or replacement. Thinner tarps or those exposed to heavy wind and rain may not last the full 90 days, so it's important to monitor the tarp's condition to ensure it continues to protect your roof from the elements.

Some people prefer to use connectors consisting of galvanized metal to replace the birdsmouth cuts on the rafter board. Common names for these metal pieces include hurricane ties and variable-pitch connectors. Making birdsmouth cuts is more cost-effective than purchasing these connectors for each rafter. However, because making large birdsmouth cuts to accommodate extra-wide exterior walls can weaken the rafter, a connector may be the better option in some cases.

Leaving a significant amount of snow on your roof can be risky. Most roofs are designed to handle about 20 pounds per square foot of snow, but exceeding this limit can lead to a roof collapse. A collapse can cause severe damage to your home and belongings and poses a physical danger to anyone inside. Furthermore, heavy snow accumulation increases the risk of ice dams, which can cause leaks and water damage to your roof, attic, and interior walls.

The cost to install roof heating cables typically ranges from $500 to $2,000, with an average of around $1,000. On a per-foot basis, you can expect to pay between $8 and $15 per linear foot. Key factors that influence the final price include the size and complexity of your roof, roof pitch, the type and length of the cable, the price of the system itself, labor fees, and whether any additional electrical work is required. Generally, smaller roofs will cost less than larger ones. The total cost usually includes both materials and professional installation.

Generally, snow guards are not required by building codes unless a local municipality has included them in their code. Even though they are not usually required, snow guards are highly recommended, especially for metal roofs in areas that see significant snowfall throughout the year. They act as a barrier to large loads of snow that can slide off a roof, potentially injuring people and damaging property.
