"Groovey Hues did a great job. They painted my living room and kitchen at a fair price, plus most importantly, I didn’t have to do it myself. There was also a little paint leftover and they painted my dog house as a throw in."

"Kind, respectful, easy to work with, HONEST, hard-workers, wonderful teamwork members of 3 men. CAME IN UNDER QUOTE saving me hundreds of $$ :) Very grateful. I wasn't prepared for them painting my basement walls and had NOT packed in boxes items up against all 4 walls. they packed my boxes without complaining. another reached HIGH UP book shelf items handing them to me for boxing & caring to my garage. they went beyond the call of duty, which as a senior white-haired lady; i appreciated 100%. scraped/sanded the paint off in those areas; painted the bad spots with special stuff before painting with color i chose them to paint. i'm satisfied 100% with their detailed work. if you are ALLERGIC TO PAINT SMELLS, best be gone when they paint with the LOW VOLUME PAINT as it still stinks really bad for us allergic to SMELLS. glad they/i had many fans going to get rid of the fumes!! cleaned up after themselves; covered the basement floors good. they were as quiet as "church mice" when they knew i went back to bed to sleep....much appreciated!! "Had a wonderful experience with Simply Painting Company! They provided some great recommendations on paint color options, provided timely communication regarding status of the project, and provided competitive pricing. On painting day they arrived promptly to start the project and did a great job. They even completed the project a day ahead of schedule. I highly recommend Simply Painting Company"

Customers say: True professional

"Andy was quick to respond to my first call and was able to come and give us a rough estimate that same day. He followed with detailed estimate a few days later. He was very patient with us and answered all our questions and guided us to what was needed for our new tile for backsplash. The professionals that work with him for plumbing, cabinet painting, and installing counter tops were all very pleasant and were there when they said they would be or called if there would be a delay.

Although going thru a remodel is always a bit of an inconvenience, the finished product was well worth it! We love our new kitchen and very much appreciate Andy and his dad for their help"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Stains penetrate wood best when it's cool and dry, so you want to avoid moisture. If the wood is wet upon application, or if it rains before the stain dries, the water will soak into the wood and displace the staining solution. This leads to a flaky and blotchy look, which is the opposite of a sumptuous even coat. Once the stain has fully cured, after about 3 days, rain shouldn’t cause you any problems.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.
