"We came home to our basement with couple of inches of water. The plumber was able to come that same afternoon and recommended that we replace the sump pump. During the repair, he discussed the need for maintenance on this sump pump. We enjoyed working with this plumber and will hire this company again."

"It is now two weeks since Cool Air Mechanical installed new air conditioning in my house after the old R22 Freon compressor died. Just 18 months earlier the furnace had died and they came out and installed a 17.5 inch Lennox Elite furnace. We did not buy an air conditioning system at that time because the one we had was working great. But now the search for a new Air Conditioning system. 1. First off, my house had hot spots (A. Master bedroom with a 15 foot plus headboard wall which greeted the early morning July and August sun), (B. A Bonus room over the garage which was in the sun all day). To help the bonus room out, there was a window AC placed in the window which took away from the look of the house (and not allowed in most subdivisions in Atlanta). 2. This makes the second time that our HVAC system had gone out in less than 24 months and we were either freezing in 25 degrees weather or sweating in 90 plus heat. BIDS: Every other AC company that came out and looked at the failed system, and commented on the great work that was done on the furnace/air handler installation 18 months ago. DECISION: So I decided I wanted a dual 12000 BTU head Mini split heat pump installed along with the new whole house R410 air compressor and A coil. This would give us a backup just in case the whole house main system died again, we could just move to the part of the house with the mini splits systems until the whole system was repaired. Also, the mini split system would have built in thermostats in each head unit and would cool the rooms further if the main whole house system had cooled enough for the main house and shut off. PROBLEM: My bedroom and the bonus room both had Cathedral type ceilings (slanted). My wife did not want the head units hanging on the walls. Our salesman Jon says that the in ceiling head units had to be flat and level, so that meant no in ceiling installation of the mini-split head units. SOLUTION: A.) Buy a $500 service contract that would cover the whole system for six years with a 3-hour response time if called in before 5:00 pm. That would take care of our down time. B.) Zoning with a bypass installation. They would check out and redo the duct work to the zoned rooms, install zoning system and put thermostats in the bonus and master bedroom. That way each zone could call the air compressor when needed and any extra air from the AC handler would be recycled back in. (NO HANGING WALL HEADS Wife Happy). INSTALLATION: The day of installation, Victor and Maverick worked the entire day on the removing old duct work and installing new electric dampened duct work, Zoning Board, Air Compressor, Circuit Breaker, Thermostats and Thermostat wiring to all zones. The Lennox Elite 3.5 ton Air Compressor which I order was not in stock so they upgraded me to an Elite 4 ton 16 SEER at no extra cost. The zoning panel was from Honeywell and they used Honeywell 9000 WIFI thermostats which turned out to be more accurate than my First Alert WIFI thermostat in controlling room temperatures (feels a lot better). They were able to place the new thermostats where I wanted them on the wall. It was a cool day (high of 75) when they did the install, so we really could not test the system fully. A couple of days later it was hot and the bonus room had an issue where the AC would not shut off (FREEZING BONUS ROOM). I called in that evening and the next day they were there. It appears that the wall where the thermostat was installed insulation had fallen down and the heat from the attic was right on the back of the thermostat. They caulked all holes and replaced the insulation and everything works great now. With the Costco rebates they were better priced than others and we had more warranty coverage."

"I was hoping to see what was installed at every stage of the process. Feel a little in the dark about what is buried underneath the concrete and the process. Could not reach the sales person to ask questions after job was booked. There was confusion about what was to be done exactly. The workers were diligent and helpful wiith moving some of the junk in the basement. Job was done quickly and the areas left clean."

Customers say: Super punctual

"My Hansgrohe shower in my recently purchased home did not mix the hot and cold water. My handyman had tried to fix this but did not know to. Tommy immediately knew what to do. He knew how to get to the installation from a closet in an adjacent room, and corrected effectively and without too much damage to the drywall. He also gave me advice on the parts I should get to have my leaky Grohe faucet repaired. Typically this brand has a lifetime warranty, but the warranty does not transfer to subsequent owners.  The fact that it was an infrequent repair yet he knew what to do was impressive.

"Very professional and willing to work with me regarding install and timing. Due to variety of trees in the area opted for micromesh gutters to minimize debris infiltration - we do have spill-over as micromesh are less efficient at collecting water but this is a tradeoff."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

Several indicators suggest it's time for a sump pump replacement. A key factor is age; if the pump is over 10 years old, its lifespan is likely ending. Performance issues are also clear signs, such as the pump running constantly, cycling on and off frequently, making unusual noises or vibrations, or failing to function at all. A faulty or burnt-out motor is another definite sign a replacement is needed. Additionally, if you notice any signs of incorrect installation, the pump should be replaced. For a definitive diagnosis, a vetted plumber can assess the pump and confirm whether a replacement is necessary.

If your sump pump isn’t engaging, it might be clogged with dirt and debris. Check to see if the fitting lid is loose and has been letting debris in. Next, check the float and make sure it’s not obstructed by rust or gunk, which results from insufficient maintenance. Tangled wires or damaged switching systems can also stop your sump pump from engaging.

Test regularly, clean the pump, and inspect the discharge line to ensure efficient operation.

Sewer ejector pumps need to be cleaned at least once a year by a professional. You shouldn’t attempt to clean it yourself because it can release sewer gasses that are toxic to humans and can be fatal. But to keep the system as clean as possible between professional inspection and cleaning services, be sure to only flush human waste and toilet paper. Avoid flushing items that can clog the system, like paper towels, grease, oil, or menstruation products.

In most cases, standard homeowners insurance policies do not cover damage from a sump pump failure or overflow. Coverage for water damage is often limited to sudden, unexpected events like a burst pipe that was not caused by negligence. To be covered for sump pump issues, you will likely need to purchase a specific rider, endorsement, or additional water backup insurance. If your insurer offers this type of coverage, they may require proof that your sump pump is regularly maintained.
