"Adam is a trustworthy and dedicated professional. He takes great pride in his work and his project management exceeds expectations. I hired him again to build multi projects in our new home in the city. He had done a superb job when I've referred him to other homeowners as well."

"We moved intoa home that needed (still needs) a full renovation. One of the first things we focused on was replacing the original deck. We got a couple quotes & found that we tended to get a different/higher price based on where we lived. My husband & I have renovated over 10 homes in last 5 years so we know prices Anyway, I saw an old post from a neighbor who recommended Better Built Decks out of Dawsonville. Anyway, Father/Son team who did TOP NOTCH work & just super nice guys. They also did some work in our attic and are going to rip off our non-original portico on our home. I highly recommend!"

"Our experience with Home Improvement Masters was outstanding! Mr Craig and his team did an amazing job adding the addition to our home. He was also able to get our entire roof replaced through an insurance claim and we were able to get a brand new roof. We upgraded from a builders grade three tab shingle to a more appealing architectural shingle, as well as replace a few of the gutters. Also the crew did an amazing job with cleaning up the work site after they were finished and left everything immaculate. We highly recommend Home Improvement Masters and would be willing to provide a reference to anyone looking for a reputable contractor. Thank you Mr. Craig!"

"A piece had to be custom made so technicians had to come back. However, they came ahead of schedule and fixed the problem quickly and very, very reasonably. Despite the freezing temperatures! Will definitely hire again."

Customers say: Super punctual

"I am THRILLED......to meet Allen and crew. Very thorough, neat, picked up all materials. Very professional and explained what they were doing. I told him, will call him again. Husband and I are elderly. We need someone we can depend on. I need 3 more fans installed, that will require them putting a piece of wood in attic - to attach the fans to. Love these newly built homes."

"They did an excellent job building a screen room on my deck. The finished product looks great. I would rate straight 5's if communication was better but then it's difficult for contractors to respond quickly since they are on the job all day. I would definitely hire them again."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

A few signs that you need a new door frame include:

  • The door no longer fits properly in its frame and sticks or scrapes.

  • You notice cracks, holes, or rotting.

  • You feel a draft coming from around the door when it’s closed.

  • You find yourself frequently needing to make repairs.

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.
