"Adam is a trustworthy and dedicated professional. He takes great pride in his work and his project management exceeds expectations. I hired him again to build multi projects in our new home in the city. He had done a superb job when I've referred him to other homeowners as well."

"Carpentry work inside was excellent. Outside renovations really fixed the rotted wood with more permanent materials. He gave great ideas how to make make it look nicer then it originally did. I am looking forward to having them build a room addition for me. They're great problem solvers, easy to contact and responsive to requests. They cleaned up well!"

"They repaired my front steps which had some issues from a DIFFERENT contractor building it. Not only did he repair some bad boards, he replaced a lot of boards with MUCH cleaner cuts. It looks so much nicer than it did before. Robert went beyond what was quoted, got it done on schedule, was very flexible, and was very pleasant to work with. Robert did the work - this was not a contractor with some random crew banging out a project, but instead a craftsman who clearly takes pride in his work."

"We cannot give enough praise to the extraordinary team at Deck Yeah. Unfortunately we had a bad experience with another contractor who started the project, however left our house in shambles with work being out of code. Deck Yeah took over a job that many contractors would not and helped put our home back together building the deck of our dreams. They are true craftsmen with impeccable attention to detail as illustrated by their incredible trim work. The owner remained on the job site each day, even coming in on weekends to ensure exceptional quality work and provided consistent updates. Unlike other decking companies who would only provide referrals, Deck Yeah managed all add ons including outdoor kitchen, underdecking, and patio flagstone build out. We highly recommend their work and are now able to safely enjoy our back deck with no stress of being unsafe."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Price is A+. He has very high quality and very attentive to detail. I would have expected a few more things done in the time that he had but he took his time and that was okay. He made sure everything was done and cleaned up properly. That part of it was way more than I expected. I was okay with maybe the number of tasks not being quite as many as I expected. I'd much rather have the quality than quantity. He was here from 10 to 6 perhaps. He just gets right to it and takes care of business. I work from home and he doesn't really interrupt me or bother me or anything like that. I gave him a list and he went at it."

"We hired Sam to build a closet in some unused space. The space wasn't your typical square/rectangle and required some angle work to create a usable closet. He did a great job and was able to change our unusable space into usable space that blended in with the surrounding area. He cleaned up the workspace each day prior to leaving and treated our home with care and respect. I would highly recommend Sam for any remodeling projects you may want completed in your home. This is the third project we have had Sam do in our home and would not hesitate to hire him again for any future projects."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Professionals charge between $60 and $95 per hour to install ornamental porch columns. The amount of time they need varies based on the condition of the porch, whether they need to remove old columns, and if there is any damage to your porch's structure. This cost can increase if more issues come up during the installation process.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.
