"Adam is a trustworthy and dedicated professional. He takes great pride in his work and his project management exceeds expectations. I hired him again to build multi projects in our new home in the city. He had done a superb job when I've referred him to other homeowners as well."

"Javier and his team with Eagle really build me a great deck on a difficult foundation. Their communication, quality of construction, and cleanup were very professional and much appreciated. The Work was done in a timely manner. I have worked with quite a few contractors as of late and there are very few who are reliable, responsible and take pride in what they do here in the north Georgia area! Highly recommended!"

"Brothers Pro Painters are without a doubt the best painter I have ever hired. They are totally professional, on time and as perfect an exterior painting company I have ever dealt with. I have looked for issues and problems without finding any. If there was an issue during the job it was corrected immediately. I’m 69 years old and never dealt with a better group of people. If ever I need any painting done they will get a call from me. And to add to their expertise they are great finished carpenters as well."

"First off, we had several quotes and designs that we got along with Artisan. We had a new build house that wasnt finished, but had a model. Beverly was the only one that would come out to the model to get us a design and pricing. Beverly was so creative with the design and listened to our needs when she came up with the best design for us. We went to the showroom to see where everything is made and met the owner, which was just another reason we went with Artisan. The owner was very nice and came out to say hello to us, the morning we were there and thanked us for our business. We had closed the deal a few months before installation, but this last week was installation day. We were told that the installers would wear booties and would need access to the garage and would clean up their mess, etc.... How many times have we heard that, "we'lll clean up"... Billy and Joel came out to install, were on time and very professional. We had asked them to do the pantry first, then the his closet, as we had some last minute painting still needing to be done in the "hers" closet and also needed to work, so the kitchen was the only place for that. They had no problem with our request. They installed everything and it looked amazing! Did they clean up, oh YES!... Cleaned everything up and even wiped down the shelves and drawers for the closets and pantry they just installed. We are so impressed with the way they turned out. Thank you Artisan Closets, Beverly and Billy and Joel."

"We have used a good amount of companies before, and continued to get the same result; no communication, always above budget, and never within the time frame discussed. Trevor and his team were the exact opposite of this. We never had any issues with communication, price, or time. We also have three small children and our project was fairly large. Trevor and his team took great care to make sure our children were comfortable, and most importantly, safe. 10 out of 10 will absolutely hire again."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

By careful planning and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity.
