"This was a completely gutted bathroom remodel from the floors to the ceiling. Nothing was untouched. Derrick and his crew were excellent and very nice to work with. I had received many quotes from other contractors, but Derrick's was the only one that had itemized break downs for each item of labor and parts that would go into this remodel. He was very responsive to any questions or concerns that I had and was on site when he said he would be. Needless to say the remodel came out excellent. I really appreciate that months later when a blower hose had disconnected from the Jacuzzi bath tub (not tightened enough from the manufacture) within days he had someone on site to remove and replace tile so that I could reconnect the blower hose. Derrick backs up his work and again does a great job."

"LAR Construction and Remodeling provided excellent design recommendations for our master bath. Once a design/layout was agreed upon, we were provided 3D images of what the end product would look like, once the project was completed, it was amazing on how accurate the plan images were compared to the actual bathroom! We are definitely pleased."

"Trevor and his team did a brilliant job with the renovations of the house that was not in good shape prior. He was communicative and available to chat at all times to provide updates. The attention to detail on all tasks is what impressed the most. He was flexing with his pricing and got the job done before estimated completion date. I would definitely use his services again."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Whether converting a tub to a shower is worth it depends on your personal circumstances and priorities. For many, a shower is a safer option that reduces the risk of slip-and-fall accidents, making it a valuable upgrade. It can also be a worthwhile conversion if a shower is more practical for your lifestyle and you rarely use the tub. However, there are potential downsides to consider. The cost, which can range from $1,200 to $8,000, can be a deterrent. Additionally, if you have young children, a bathtub is often easier for bathing them. Finally, removing the only bathtub in a home can potentially lower its resale value in the eyes of some buyers.

It is possible to install a two-in-one unit that has both a shower and a walk-in tub so you can still have both in smaller bathrooms or provide a showerhead for those in the household who prefer taking showers. You’ll hear these referred to as walk-in tub and shower combo units. Keep in mind that these combo units can take up more space than a standard shower or tub, and you’ll most likely need to hire a pro to install one.

The order of your bathroom renovation should prevent damage to the completed work. Start with demolition and removing the old fixtures. Then, address structural repairs or water damage, if needed. Next, tackle the rough-in phase for plumbing and electrical work, install waterproofing, and work on wall treatments like tile or paint. Install your shower or bathtub, toilet, vanity, and sink. Flooring goes in after major fixtures but before the toilet. Lastly, install new lighting fixtures, mirrors, and other finishing touches as desired.

The most common type of tub is the alcove; most bathtubs are shower and tub combinations. Many suburban homes feature these as the default option because they allow the flexibility for users to take a bath or a shower—a notable benefit for those with pets and young kids.

We don’t recommend using a tub liner to cover up cracks in a bathtub. Instead, you should repair the cracks yourself if you have the experience or hire a pro. Cracks may seem like small surface imperfections, but they can lead to much larger issues, so repair them as soon as you can.
