"We rented a 20 foot truck to move some of our belongings to a house approximately 200 miles away.  We used a different moving service to load us.  They sent three people, one older gentlemen, estimated about 45 years old, another gentleman about 30 years old and a young man, we estimate to be about 20 years old.  The 30 year old was in a hurry and he and the older gentleman did not agree on items.  The 30 year old and the young man moved a large piece of furniture down some steps and gouged a wall and did not tell us.  When it came to loading the truck, the 30 year old took over and he and the older gentleman argued a bit.
We drove to our destination and the people from Pick Up & Go arrived the next day.  In the unloading process, they showed us an upholesterd chair that was laid on its side and because of this, the material pulled away from the side seams.  Antoine and Reggie took their time, put our furniture where we requested it and were very pleasant to be around.
We were so impressed that we will use them to move the rest of our furniture in the near future.

"Lord's Moving Co. was great. My mother died in June and in closing up the house, I knew I would be needing a mover to take some of the pieces of furniture, including an old player piano and huge globe to our home in SC. I found Paul on Angie's List. All the arrangements had to be done on the phone. Paul was extremely helpful and good at communication. He met with someone at the house, gave us an estimate and we agreed on the move date. The 2 movers arrived early, were quick, careful and professional and 10 hours later the furniture arrived at our house in SC. They also made a stop at a storage unit to unload some of the items. Paul and his movers made a difficult situation very easy and stress free. If I lived in the area, or needed something similar to what I had done, I would hire Lord's Moving Co. for the job. They were great."

"Andre and Frank were the movers, and they did a great job! I was thoroughly impressed! On time, nothing broken, disassembled furniture was reassembled an put in place. Zero complaints!! And fast! From now on, I'm calling Top Notch any time I move! Hopefully not for a while, because moving sucks. Having to change my address on everything blows! But I will refer them to anyone who needs to move."

"Unfornately furniture was damaged during the move. Not sure why the movers did not wrap all my furniture in blankets even after I requested them to do so. It seemed like one mover just did not want to bother. The pieces that were not wrapped were banged around and damaged. Does not make sense to me because I was paying them by the hour so wrapping my stuff would have taken longer allowing the company to make more money but more importantly my furniture would have been protected. Although the company did come put marker on the dented dining room hutch (which the dent is still clearly noticeable), put marker on the scratched chairs and replaced the glass that they broke in the dining room hutch, the dining room table that was dragged across the asphalt is ruined. Once again if they took their time and wrapped it in a blanket this would not have occurred. Wish the movers would have granted my request to wrap all my furniture.

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

The cost to ship furniture can range from $300 to $4,500 per piece, depending on the size and weight of the item and where it’s being shipped to. For a cross-country move, which companies consider any distance over 400 miles, it will cost $300 to $800 per piece to ship furniture. For an international move, shipping will cost around $1,000 to $4,500 per piece.

The level of difficulty for this type of move depends on the size of the safe. However, even a small gun safe can weigh several hundred pounds. Since gun safes are large and bulky, they are typically difficult to move and transport unless you have the right equipment and plenty of professional help.

Old pianos can be hard to sell for a few reasons. Pianos fifty years or older may only sell for several hundred dollars and will often cost more to transport to the new owners. Restoring a piano also costs well into the thousands, making it pretty hard to make your money back. In most cases, donating or recycling the parts of a piano is more cost-efficient and beneficial in the long run.

To make sure that your moving quote is fair, check current prices for hiring movers in your area. Your starting and final locations can affect the price. You should also make sure you include the cost of any specialty movers in your price estimate. Calculate your moving costs including the estimated expense of moving services and compare the figure to average costs in your area.

Tipping movers is not mandatory, and most professional companies do not expect it. However, it is a common way to show appreciation for their hard work and the care they take with your belongings and home. A standard tip is between 10% and 20% of your total bill, split among the crew, or about $10 per mover per hour, tipped individually. It's an especially good idea to tip if the movers work in difficult weather, handle specialty items like pianos or pool tables, provide extra packing services, or go above and beyond your expectations.
