"I realize it is way past hurricane Ian, however I was not aware of any issue(s) until now. My fence was installed back in 2019 and I paid 6k for a vinyl privacy fence for 3/4 of my yard and chain link on 1/4. Of course the vinyl fence was destroyed by Ian. I have been informed though that the vinyl post should have had wood posts inside them to reinforce them rather than be hollow. In addition it was brought to my attention that no tension wire was installed on the chain link fence. I am not a contractor and had no idea there should have been a tension wire. The lack of tension wire continues to allow for animals to enter my yard. I am a single mom on a budget. I had several estimates and chose Englewood Fencing, which I know now was a mistake. I would advise against using Englewood Fencing."

"I signed a contract for $16,380 with MAC Pools to extend my lanai. I was upcharged for pavers under the truss once the job was almost completed ($875) and then a strip of concrete was placed next to the sliding glass door by MAC Pools. I hired another paver company to rearrange the pavers, cut off the metal on the sliding door and take the pavers up to the door ($350). Just recently hired Alex to replace the rusty screws. MAC Pools did not respond to my emails with pictures. I sent the emails to Kathy and Lynn Morrisson. They are now just MAC."

Check for gaps or weak spots where your dog could escape and seal them. Remove toxic plants, chemicals, and potentially hazardous items. The list includes cocoa bean mulch, which is harmful to pups if ingested.

It's also essential to provide shade and fresh water. You may want to consider installing a dog-friendly surface on concrete areas like artificial turf. Additionally, regularly inspect for potential hazards, such as sharp objects or broken glass. Most importantly, supervise your dog during outdoor time to ensure their safety.

The height of your garden fence depends on your goals and priorities. Do you need to keep rabbits out? Then you’ll need at least two feet in height to do so. Is it more of a privacy fence? For that, you’ll want to construct something at least 7 feet tall so that there’s little chance anyone can see over the fence. Some garden fences are purely decorative, in which case the height is up to you. 

Silt fences are very effective when installed correctly and used in proper locations. However, there are places where they don’t work as well. The bottom strand should sit between 12 to 15 inches from the ground. If you have a problem with small critters, you can aim for 8 inches. Three-strand fences should be 16 to 19 inches apart, four-strand fences should be 10 to 12 inches apart, and five-strand fences should be 8 and 10 inches apart.

You can use soil and gravel instead of concrete when setting fence posts. However, concrete is more durable and longer lasting, so it's worth considering if you want your fence to withstand the test of time. You should especially consider concrete if you live in a region that experiences severe weather, which can damage your fence.
