"Patrick and Ken came out and installed a UV light and an ozone distribution system in my Air Handler and it works great. They were courtesy and professional and the price was very fair for the quality work they did and for the detailed explanation they gave myself and my wife. I highly recommend them"

"Jimmy the owner is very nice and professional, explained whole a lot details about the units and gave multiple choices for me to choose from. And they were so quick in action, Juan and Albert came to my house did the installation the very next day after the estimate was given, very impressive. The unit has been running smoothly since the installation. And I really like the new smart thermostat they put in, I can control the AC through my phone now."

"Hugh was great! He didn't charge extra to come on a Sunday. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He repaired my AC quickly and for an affordable rate. As someone new to the Pensacola area, I got worried about finding a HVAC repair guy that would overcharge or tell you that you needed things you didn't need, but Hugh was honest and affordable. I would highly recommend Hugh for you HVAC repair/installation needs!"

"I'm super grateful to Hayes Air Experts. I should have called them first instead of the other company I called. I reached out to them and a tech came out within just a couple of hours. They cleared the drain line and restored my air conditioning in no time. And the price was a lot lower than what the other company quoted me. I highly recommend them."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If your AC unit isn’t cooling and you haven’t figured out why, there are a few good reasons to turn it off ASAP. The source of the issue, whether that be leaking refrigerant or a broken compressor, will worsen and cause more damage to the overall unit the longer the machine is allowed to run. When in doubt, shut it down until you or an AC pro can ensure everything is working properly.

During the summer, it’s best to set your AC to 78 degrees when you’re home and awake, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). For better energy efficiency, raise the temperature slightly to 85 degrees while you’re out of the house. The National Sleep Foundation advises lowering your thermostat to between 60 and 67 degrees when you’re asleep.

It’s never a good idea to run your AC without a filter, even just for a night. The filter defends your HVAC system from the dust, dirt, debris, and other grime in your home. Without a filter, those contaminants are more likely to get inside your system and potentially damage it.

You can buy a house with a 15-year-old HVAC system if you inspect the system for performance and budget for a replacement within the next three years. You can also negotiate the price with the sellers. Ask to look at the unit’s maintenance records and energy bills for the last two years to determine the shape of the HVAC system and its operating costs. Spend time in each room of the house to gauge if the HVAC keeps the home at a consistent temperature throughout.

Most HVAC surge protectors last about three to five years, depending on how often your home experiences blackouts or brownouts. If your unit is susceptible to more frequent electrical surges, consider replacing your surge protector every two years. Consult your HVAC professional to determine when and how often to replace your HVAC surge protectors.
