"Josh was on time, knowledgeable, and thorough. He explained everything he was going to do, and even gave me tips on how to maintain my system better! Pricing was beyond fair compared to other local HVAC companies that I got a quote from. My AC has been running great ever since! Highly recommend Local HVAC!"

"Arthur was a pleasure to work with. Great communication and always returned calls or text messages. Knew his business and did everything he said he would. Had his son as an assistant who was also a pleasure and helpful to Arthur, installing thermostat and keeping the job site in order. I would highly recommend Arthur of Lars air conditioning to anyone looking to replace or repair their air conditioner or heat pump units."

"Outstanding! Louis was very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. He took his time to explain the various pieces of the HVAC system, and made suggestions on maintenance. He followed a long detailed checklist, and pretty much tuned-up everything. Would definitely hire for future HVAC needs."

Customers say: True professional

"Our dryer indicated a flow problem even though we had only been in our new built home for less than a month and this was a brand new LG dryer. My husband read the reviews and at nine pm he contacted Breathe Easy A/C and received a return call almost immediately. The next morning our tech, Austin Foley, arrived and the problem was found very quickly. He went on our roof and found that the builder had not taken the cap grid off the vent! Nothing was getting through and the backup was very scary. We could have had a fire in no time, not something you would expect in a new built home. I watch my infant grandchild and the thought of a fire due to this small preventable thing is horrible. No pressure from this company at all but we decided on our own to do preventative measures and hire this company each year. Hopefully we can have Austin every time."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If possible, avoid placing furniture in front of a return air vent. A blocked air vent can cause your HVAC system to use more energy, which in turn can lower the life span of your unit and raise your energy bill. Furniture can also trap hot or cold air, damaging your furniture or appliances.

Professional duct installers suggest leaving between six and 12 inches of space in front of an air return vent. If you must place furniture in front of a return air vent, try to aim for putting furniture over a floor vent instead of in front of a wall vent, and avoid draping curtains over any vent system.

Yes, government incentives and programs are available to encourage energy-efficient upgrades in many regions. These incentives may include tax credits, rebates, grants, and low-interest loans for homeowners who invest in energy-efficient improvements such as HVAC system upgrades, insulation, and efficient windows. The availability and specific details of these incentives can vary by location, so check with your local government or utility company to explore your options.

For the most part, you should leave your AC fan in “auto” mode so that it only runs during a heating or cooling cycle. Keeping it in this position uses less energy, which equals lower utility bills. However, there are some situations where it’s better to leave your AC fan on, including if you have allergies or there are lots of people in your home.

No, for two very important reasons. First, it’s illegal to release refrigerant into the air or ground since it can be toxic and cause environmental damage. Technicians typically pump old or extra refrigerant into separate tanks for special disposal. Second, without professional equipment to read refrigerant pressure and levels, plus the AC’s suggested requirements, it’s impossible to know if you’ve removed the right amount of refrigerant. Stay away from a DIY solution here and seek an expert with the right tools.

While many states do not have specific licensing requirements for HVAC companies, your local city or county might. It's always a good idea to check local requirements online and use a tool like Angi’s contractor license lookup to confirm that the company you’re considering is licensed. Regardless of licensing, you should always ensure the company you hire is fully insured to avoid potential lawsuits if a technician is injured on your property. Additionally, it is recommended to check if the company holds third-party certifications, such as North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or R-410A certification, which qualifies them to work with HVAC refrigerants.
